iM Feature: Punit Patel’s 2001 Acura Integra

When one initially steps into the car scene, you see what others do and take note. Some follow suit, others directly copy another one’s style and there are a few who will break that barrier and do something that’s completely unheard of. Eventually, one will start to realize that a real project car, always progresses and will never really be, a “finished” project.

When illmotion’s very own Punit Patel was in search of his project car, he sought after one of Japan’s most popular tuned cars, the Honda Integra. Known as the Acura Integra here in North America, Punit originally wanted to acquire a Championship White Type-R. At the time of his search, the Type-R was pretty hard to find. With no luck on the Type-R, Punit set his eyes on a Milano Red SE Model. This was only the beginning.

The first stage of Punit’s Integra started with the basics. Rear wiper delete, a fresh paint job, color matched door trims, a rear window visor, CF Hood & Trunk, LED instrumentation, in-car electronics & audio, HIDs, Coilover suspension, Apexi World Sport exhaust, JDM Recaro Front Seats & Rear Bench, and a set of 16” Rotas were the start of his addiction.

Since Punit didn’t acquire the Type-R that he originally wanted, that didn’t stop him from getting a Type-R motor swap. Unsatisfied with the look of the 16” Rotas he originally put on the car, Punit stepped it up with a set of gold 17” Work Meister S1s.

With positive reception from friends and peers, Punit, like everyone else in the scene, had his fair share of haters. Would the hate stop Punit? Nope. It only helped Punit push the Integra to new heights.

On its third stage, Punit decided it was time to do something to the Integra that had not been done before in Calgary’s scene. Adding a few pieces like Raybrig fog lights, a Spoon N1 exhaust and OEM Integra Window Visors were just a taste of what was to come.

With downtime during the winter here in Calgary, Punit opted for another motor swap; the K24A2 from the Acura TSX. If that wasn’t enough, Punit sold the Meisters and took it another step further with a set of 16” CCW Race-Version Classics. With stance being a big thing in the car scene at the moment, best believe Punit was on point when it came to fitment.

The K24 motor swap wasn’t an overnight success, as it did have its ups and downs (oil pans what’s up) and the fitment may not have appeased everyone’s tastes. But because of Punit’s patience and understanding of having a car project, this is one Integra that was built according to how the owner wanted it to be.

With a recent car accident this summer (not at fault), Punit thought it might have been the end for his Integra as it could’ve been dismissed as a write-off. However with good graces on his side, the Integra is back and running better than ever. With the Carbon Fiber trunk & hood now color matched, custom teal powder coating done on the CCW faces, and an authentic Gen.1 Mugen rear wing, the car project continues to keep going…

…and going harder every year.

iM Event Coverage: Waterwerks 2011

Waterwerks first kicked off a few years ago, when one of the major PNW Audi/Volkswagen events was cancelled. Local enthusiasts then came together to organize what is now the PNW’s largest European car show. Chaney Stadium has been the venue since the first event in 2008. While there were only 300 cars, there was room for growth in the rather large venue. Over the years this event has done nothing but grow. For 2011 there were over 700 cars, while at least 3000+ people walked through the gates to come and witness this event. In the years Waterfest NW has been able to pick up some huge tittle sponsors including Rotiform Wheels, Podi Gauges, Air Lift, Fine Tuning, and many more.

When you come to Waterfest, you want to come for the whole weekend. With events starting on Friday, there are endless activities to not only to partake in, but to spectate as well. They include Auto-x, Kart-x, Dyno, Teeter Totter, and the Air Ride Limbo. You want to make sure you don’t miss out on anything. Though Sunday is the climax for the whole weekend, with over 20 vendors showing their latest products. And lets not forget the the main show. Overall Waterwerks NW is a must attend event if you live in the PNW or anywhere near. Its events like these that redefine the European scene, and make it what it is today. Here are only a small amount of the photos from this event.

iM Event Coverage: Stanceworks Tailored Seattle

The very first PNW Stanceworks event, Tailored Seattle took place this past weekend at Chaney Stadium in Tacoma. With the sun shining, and the some 30 degree weather, there were a vast amount of cars tailored to fit, from all makes and models. People coming from all over the PNW, Southern States, and Canada brought there cars for what they say was one of the first events of this kind located here in the PNW. With over 250+ cars, the show had a great turn out, and there was certainly something for every enthusiast to enjoy.

Stanceworks also hosted an Air Ride Limbo contest at the event, although there were a hand full of bagged cars making it far, the competition was dominated by the static cars. The two winning cars being Miatas, piled in as many people as they could, just to get that few mm’s lower. I don’t think anyone would ever imagine 9 people being able to squeeze into one.

iM Feature: Almond Deguzman’s 335i WORK beast

Almond and I have known each other a short while and we met while we both used to work at Apple. Kind of a weird place to meet a car guy – you’d think all you would meet are people that want to make Steve Jobs rich. Little did I know that Almond – despite his name (that kind of threw me off), was a baller and a half. Working at Apple just for the hell of it, checking in on foursquare and becoming the Mayor of Holt Renfrew every other day and deciding he was going to take the day off from his real job when I just got into mine.

We had been tweeting each other back and forth about how he was getting coilovers installed and each time I saw a tweet about it, I would simply reply “dump it”. Up until last week, Almond tweeted back and said he wanted a photoshoot. Done. I want to see if he even took my tweets into consideration. To be quite honest, I’m not even sure what his car had done or even looked like aside from the sub-par quality pictures from his iPhone (ha!)

iM Event Coverage: DTP Vancouver July 16, 2011 –…

Keepin’ things going with more coverage from DTP Vancouver, Part 3 of our iM Event Coverage will focus on the illmotion crew and the awesome homies who came out to represent with us.

Gotta give a huge shout out and thanks to Steve, Terence, Gopesh, Chris, James, Kirsten/Brodie, Michael and Dave (and the others who came along for the ride) for reppin’ with us and cruising along with us on the drive to Vancouver. It was definitely a pleasure meeting those we haven’t met before and kickin’ it with you guys at the show!

The rain did have its downside, but rockin’ with the crew and taking home 4 awards made it all worth it! In the end, it was all about the people at hand getting together for the love of this lifestyle we lead.

Once again, a HUGE congratulations to Chris, James and Michael on winning in their respective classes. Good job guys!

Lastly, big ups to illmotion’s very own Punit Patel for winning 2nd Place Best Acura. I don’t think there is a single person in the crew who hasn’t put in work in that Integra, so it was definitely a good feeling to see you win that award. Congrats homie!

Let’s move on to the pics!

iM Event Coverage: Das Volks 2011

Another great weekend filled with lots of car related stuff. As you saw yesterday the Rides ‘N Rods event went down the same day as the Das Volks 2011 show so this was our second destination for the day.

Having gone out to this for the first time since owning a VW, I was in shock to see how awesome the show was. The location, Stanley Park, was something out of a magazine and the quality of cars was something you had to see to believe.

This is one show I definitely won’t miss next year and I hope the VW community keeps raising the bar every year!

I would also like to add a video in that I found a few days after the show and I thought it related really well to the story of a VW Bus that was at Das Volks. The story behind it was awe inspiring as the owner originally bought it from the factory and had owned it since. After several trips across Europe he moved to Canada and brought it with him, then drove it from West to East 7 times! To this day the Bus is still in great condition and the owner keeps on enjoying it.
Unfortunately when talking with the owner of this particular Bus I completely forgot to snap some pics but hopefully I can find some and get them up.

iM Event Coverage: Rides ‘N Rods July 24, 2011

On Sunday, July 24th, 2011 the illmotion crew headed out to the Rides ‘N Rods show here in Calgary. The show carried everything from classics, customs, newer domestics and also a few imports. The outdoor show took place at the Highland Industrial Park area of Calgary, where quite a few automotive shops are owned and operated.

The main idea of the Rides ‘N Rods Car Show was to ‘support the local community and strengthen that community’, since these businesses are all locally owned and operated. After checking out the show first hand, the strength and support of this community was certainly there.

It was definitely a refreshing sight to see how the classic car community of Calgary get together for a non-profit show, with all proceeds/donations going towards the Calgary Handibus Association.

The crew here at illmotion definitely has to give it up to all the shops that got together to organize this event and congratulate them on their 6th year running the Rides ‘N Rods show!

We look forward to checking this show out again next year!
