iM: The Re-Up 2013 (Part 4)

Gonna wrap things up in the features/highlights side of things as we roll ahead with Part 4 of 2013 Re-Up series! Definitely stay tuned for Part 5 & 6 as we take a look back at Driven 2013 and Sunday School 2013! Let’s get right to it…

There’s no denying the fact that the FR-S has definitely made it’s imprint on the automotive scene this past year but it’s awesome to see the new school “86” owners linking up with the old school “86” owners like we have here featuring Beniot’s FR-S and Spencer’s AE86. Peep the old school and new school love.

When the Honda Fit is brought up amongst car enthusiasts, one thing comes to mind: ‘it’s a daily driver’. Be that as it may, the Honda Fit as many of us may not know has a very strong tuning culture in Japan. A look at Gangster D’s daily driven Honda Fit and one will you can get a pretty good idea of what can be done to Honda’s beloved subcompact car.

An S14 with a 1JZ power plant?! For Noel, this build in the works is definitely worth it…and we can’t wait to see what Noel has up his sleeve for this coming season!

iM Highlight: Noel’s S14 Nissan 240SX

Undeniably a big part of car history, the Shelby Mustang lives on in today’s car society and it’s owners like Rob who don’t let anyone forget about Ford’s prized pony.

iM Highlight: Rob’s 2007 Ford Shelby GT500

illmotion’s videographer Corey O’Hara, hits us with another one of his masterpieces this time showcasing Terry’s immaculate 1998 Acura Integra Type-R. We definitely can’t wait to see more videos like this from Corey this year!

Wrapping up 2013 was an update on Ricky’s Volkswagen GTI. With that perfect fusion of Japanese and German performance Ricky definitely goes the distance to making his GTI stand out from typical European fashion.

iM Feature: Daniel’s 2007 Honda Fit

“The daily driver.”

For many, the definition of a “Daily Driver” is simply a reliable car that will get one from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ on a day to day basis without any troubles whatsoever. Usually fuel efficient and super practical, the appearance of a “daily driver” for most is often neglected, and is almost always in the form of a subcompact or compact car. For those who are affected by the mod bug however, it is definitely a safe bet that almost anything you can get your hands on will not go untouched. For Daniel (aka Gangster D) and his 2007 Honda Fit Sport, forget everything you know about your typical “Daily Driver” and prepare to rethink how one can get from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’. For those who have followed illmotion, you already know that this certainly is not the first modded Honda Fit that you’ve seen, as you are probably fully aware of the heavy aftermarket support that Japan has for Honda’s vehicle of the subcompact class.

Featuring a complete authentic JDM Honda Fit 1.5S front and rear end conversion and more original goods from Japan such as the front fenders, power folding mirrors, 1.5S Taillights with the 3rd brake lamp, JDM Honda Window Visors, fitted and mated with a Mugen Tailgate Garish, a Noblesse Rear Diffuser, Front Lip Spoiler, Type-S Front Grille, 3D GT Type-1 Wing and Type-V Hood from J’s Racing, the exterior of Daniel’s Honda Fit comes off more aggressive and more-so track ready than your typical Honda Fit. Might we reiterate that this is his daily street driven car? We just can’t stress that enough. It’s just amazing!

Daniel’s heavy arsenal of parts continues in the Suspension and Brakes department as he looks to such brands as J’s Racing, Type-One Racing, and Spoon to keep his Honda Fit married to the cement and stopping on a dime when he needs it to. A highly noticeable, yet attractive feature that Daniel has implemented to compliment the suspension and brake modifications are the Advanti MI539 wheels that are dipped yellow and blue, respectively on each side of the vehicle; reminiscent of the Spoon Sports colors.

To give his Honda Fit a little more of a kick, Daniel’s Fit sports a J’s Racing Carbon Tsuchinoko Chamber Kit and a J’s Racing GD3 304R SUS Rear Tail Exhaust. An AJ-Racing Custom Throttle Body has also been implemented into Daniel’s Fit since after all, daily driving does consist of passing other cars on the fly (if need be, of course).

Meticulous attention to detail is an understatement when it comes to Daniel’s Honda Fit as the interior underwent a complete “JDM” make over. Some key features inside Daniel’s Fit are the JDM GD3 Roof Console, Interior Chrome Door Handle Set, Sun Vizors, Hazard Switch, Door Sills, Front Coin Tray, Map lights going all the way down to the Foot Well Lights. A Mugen S1 full bucket seat, manual transmission pedal set, and door lock pin set can also be found in the interior of Gangster D’s Fit. Who said you can’t have a spirited drive on the daily commute anyway?

With a hefty list of modifications found on Daniel’s Honda Fit both inside and out, one may want to re-think the definition of a “Daily Driver” as Daniel pulls out all the right stops to making his Fit stand out from all other daily driven vehicles out there on the road today. No matter what mother nature throws in Daniel’s way: rain, shine, sleet, or snow, this Fit has been through it all; and at the end of it all that’s exactly what the true meaning of a daily driver is. In between the travel from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’, Daniel makes the possibilities seem endless, a look at his Honda Fit and you’ll see exactly why…

iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet – April…

You can almost feel it in the air. The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, and the cars that have been hiding are starting to come out. The season is almost upon us, and for a handful of people, it already has. And that means the 403 Honda/Beyond.ca weekly meets are starting to get into full swing. I’ve been to a few already, and they’ve been starting to get busier and busier. Here are a few snaps I took that somewhat darker night, then it got cold, so I put the camera away:

iM x S&P! Feature: Gawa’s Honda Fit

For those of you who frequent our site you may recognize the name ‘Gawa’, as Galen Wan has been a long time contributor to illmotion. He has graciously sent pictures our way of all the major events out of eastern Canada, the most well done cars from his car family (and one of the hottest car crews out there), Level One, and even hooked us up with Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 coverage from his trip to Japan. Since Galen’s been running around snapping all these pictures and providing nothing but quality content, it makes you wonder what Galen himself drives.

Being exposed to the craziest builds that this automotive culture has ever seen, Galen undeniably has taken the best of the best that the aftermarket world has to offer, and showcases it all on what we find is one of the most underrated platforms out there, the Honda Fit. Galen has owned his Honda Fit for several years and just as expected from anyone who’s owned a modified vehicle for a long period of time, it has been through many stages. The Fit as featured, is Galen’s latest and without a doubt, the best his sub compact Honda has ever looked.

Immediately after purchasing the car, Galen felt the need for more power as the stock 1.5L just wasn’t cutting it. His resolution, enter a Greddy turbo kit to provide that much needed boost that Galen was looking for. Exhaust gasses are sent through a J’s Racing test pipe and mid-pipe before exiting the car, via a Greddy axle back exhaust.

With the Engine and Exhaust modifications ultimately under control, Galen’s next step was the interior of his Fit. By combining VIP elements found in the rear bench, and race spec bucket seats up front (uber rare Zeal buckets by the way), this is one Honda Fit that takes two different tuning styles, and puts itself on a level all on it’s own, just the way Galen wanted it. He is also able to keep a close eye on his engine vitals care of DEFI and the triple gauge cluster nested in the dash. Rounding out the interior is a Vertex King steering wheel, custom in car entertainment and a plethora of JDM Honda Fit parts.

The exterior of Galen’s Fit is complimented with a Kenstyle kit (lips, skirts and wing) which came off the Tjin Edition Honda Fit demo car, a fully vinyl wrapped body (including a crocodile skin vinyl roof) and a J’s Racing grille. The car’s stance is achieved by T1R and KW V2 coilovers in the front and rear respectively, J’s Racing chassis bars all over the car and 17″ SSR Competition rollers with Yokohama tires. Peaking out from behind the SSR wheels is the always coveted Endless 4 pot big brake kit.

As mentioned earlier, Galen has managed to combine the styles of VIP Tuning and functional performance, and pieces it all together nicely on what’s truly, a one of a kind Honda Fit. In a society where styles are segregated, and cars are deemed to only be “one thing or the other”, it’s people like Galen who come out and break this mold, that bring some much needed innovation and ingenuity to this car culture that we all live for. Believe us when we say that this indeed is not an easy task, yet Galen makes it look so effortless.

As we’ve done in the past on our collaborative posts, be sure to check out our friends at S&P! for their take on Galen’s Fit (with more pictures for your viewing pleasure) HERE.

Thanks again to Galen for everything he’s shared with us, alongside our friends at Stretch and Poke! Onto the feature…

iM Shop Spotlight: Garage Box Grand Opening

|Shop: Garage Box Auto Innovation
|Location: #10 920 28 St. NE Calgary, AB
|Website: www.garageboxauto.com

|Telephone: (403) 984-2808
|Crew: Paul, Philip

On Sunday, March 20th 2011, the illmotion crew hit up the grand opening of another new shop in Calgary: Garage Box Auto Innovation. Paul Tan, responsible for a lot of awesome work done to a few of Calgary’s sickest whips, is the man in charge of the new shop.

Being that it was officially the first day of Spring (Seriously, it was), there was no better way to kick start the season than to get every one together to congratulate Paul on the opening of his new shop. With good people, good food, awesome beats and raffles with proceeds going towards Japan Tsunami Relief, Garage Box Auto Innovation definitely left a good impression to those in attendance.

Garage Box Auto Innovation specializes in general automotive service/maintenance as well as custom and aftermarket applications on whatever vehicle you have. Should you have any further inquiries do not hesitate to contact Paul Tan.

Congratulations once again going out to Paul on the launch of Garage Box Auto Innovation. You’ll definitely be seeing a few of us from illmotion wanting to get work done on our cars! =)

Our very own Aldrich, hittin’ up the turntables for most of the afternoon.

Paul’s ongoing project Celica

And it looks like even though it’s mid march, we have some homies like Steve rocking his partial summer mode. We were lucky enough to avoid the 15-20cm snowfall warning that was supposed to hit last night. So it’s good to see.

We also have Gangster D rocking his J’s Fit. This, believe it or not is his winter beater. He’s also got a Spoon’d out S2000 for summer time. Spoon calipers for stopping in the snow? Jeez.

iM on Vacation: Hello From The Philippines!

As some of you may know, and for others that don’t, I’m currently spending my Christmas/New Years break in the Philippines. Been here since the 20th of December, and won’t be back home until January 12th. Its been a great trip so far, spending time with family I’ve never met, seeing the places where my parents grew up, and at the end of it all, appreciating how lucky I am to live where I live, and learning to not take what I have in everyday life for granted.

An older Evo:

A school bus??? Sweet!:

That being said, I never forgot about you guys. The car scene here is way different than in Canada, traffic is nuts here! The lines on the roads are just suggestions, a two lane highway turns into a 3/4 lane highway. In traffic, if there is a spot on the road for a vehicle, there will be one there.

Anyways, here are some random snaps of different interesting vehicles that I’ve seen so far, ranging from public transportation, nicely done cars, to vehicles that I don’t see on a normal basis.

There were all sorts of mini vans that weren’t that mini. These look like they seat a minimum of 9 people, but are very stylish compared to the vans in North America. This one is a Hyundai Stariex:

This is a Jeepney. It is a common form of public transportation in the bigger cities:

A slightly modified newer Legacy wagon. How come they look much better here?

A new Ford Fiesta S. We will probably get the watered down version in North America:

Toyota Ardeo Vista. Another car I’d like to see in North America:

A clean Fit/Jazz on Volk Gram Lights:

A nice Jeep belonging to a friend of the family:

Thats all for now. Hope you enjoyed it so far. I’ll leave you with this pic… more on it soon:

iM Feature: Diana’s GE8 x WORK

Some of you that have been here since the beginning might remember Diana’s fit during winter when we test fit the WORK Meister S1’s while they were still gold.
Check it out here if you don’t remember
Diana’s Fit Does WORK

Well, we haven’t really gotten any good pictures of the car since we lowered it and got the wheels painted a custom House of Kolor Violette. The car has such a nice, functional (yeah, I said it) height and it looks sooo much better. The only thing left to do is order the WORK stickers just to add that nice little touch.

Check it out!

iM: Diana’s Fit Does WORK

So with exams coming up, I’m finding it harder and harder to find time to study and work on cars at the same time. This morning, Dave from Screamin’ Paintworks calls me and tells me that Diana’s WORK’s are finished. We go and pick ’em up and they are friggin sick!

The color is a custom House of Kolor Violette with some tweaking of the shade. It’s friggin dope cause the color changes in the light. Big thanks to Screamin’ Paintworks!

The word gets around and JC starts pressuring me to lower it today too and to study after. After tons of peer pressuring, I cave and I head down to Prashant’s and JC, Punit and I get working on the Fit. In go the T1r springs

Here it is, in all it’s stock 4×4 glory.

Working on taking the damned front cowl off. &$#!

Stock strut/spring

The stock spring and the T1r spring

Pictures just don’t do this color justice.. WOooo

Spring in

JC throwing around gangster signs and shit

Fronts down and lowered! SICK

Working on the rears

All done.

Represent!

Looks friggin sick! The fronts are pretty flush, with no rubbing and the rears could use a spacer, but I think it’s good for now.
In the end, I got no studying done, JC got no bills paid, Prashant just barely made it to work, and Punit got us all slurpees hahaha

Again, big thanks to JC, Punit, and Prashant for helping out on this project. Another one down!

iM: Fit does Work

So Diana and I got bored today and decided to test fit the Meisters she bought from Punit. They’ve been sitting in her garage for a few months and we didn’t even test fit them to see if they fit good so I decided to do it up this afternoon. The fronts sit nice and flush, the rears are a little sunk, but it’s all good.
We still have to install the T1R S-coil springs on the beast and we’re good to go. She’s also getting the spokes refinished in a different color probably in a few weeks so they won’t be gold and we’ll have fresh new stickers. Stay tuned!
