iM Feature: Punit Patel’s 2001 Acura Integra

When one initially steps into the car scene, you see what others do and take note. Some follow suit, others directly copy another one’s style and there are a few who will break that barrier and do something that’s completely unheard of. Eventually, one will start to realize that a real project car, always progresses and will never really be, a “finished” project.

When illmotion’s very own Punit Patel was in search of his project car, he sought after one of Japan’s most popular tuned cars, the Honda Integra. Known as the Acura Integra here in North America, Punit originally wanted to acquire a Championship White Type-R. At the time of his search, the Type-R was pretty hard to find. With no luck on the Type-R, Punit set his eyes on a Milano Red SE Model. This was only the beginning.

The first stage of Punit’s Integra started with the basics. Rear wiper delete, a fresh paint job, color matched door trims, a rear window visor, CF Hood & Trunk, LED instrumentation, in-car electronics & audio, HIDs, Coilover suspension, Apexi World Sport exhaust, JDM Recaro Front Seats & Rear Bench, and a set of 16” Rotas were the start of his addiction.

Since Punit didn’t acquire the Type-R that he originally wanted, that didn’t stop him from getting a Type-R motor swap. Unsatisfied with the look of the 16” Rotas he originally put on the car, Punit stepped it up with a set of gold 17” Work Meister S1s.

With positive reception from friends and peers, Punit, like everyone else in the scene, had his fair share of haters. Would the hate stop Punit? Nope. It only helped Punit push the Integra to new heights.

On its third stage, Punit decided it was time to do something to the Integra that had not been done before in Calgary’s scene. Adding a few pieces like Raybrig fog lights, a Spoon N1 exhaust and OEM Integra Window Visors were just a taste of what was to come.

With downtime during the winter here in Calgary, Punit opted for another motor swap; the K24A2 from the Acura TSX. If that wasn’t enough, Punit sold the Meisters and took it another step further with a set of 16” CCW Race-Version Classics. With stance being a big thing in the car scene at the moment, best believe Punit was on point when it came to fitment.

The K24 motor swap wasn’t an overnight success, as it did have its ups and downs (oil pans what’s up) and the fitment may not have appeased everyone’s tastes. But because of Punit’s patience and understanding of having a car project, this is one Integra that was built according to how the owner wanted it to be.

With a recent car accident this summer (not at fault), Punit thought it might have been the end for his Integra as it could’ve been dismissed as a write-off. However with good graces on his side, the Integra is back and running better than ever. With the Carbon Fiber trunk & hood now color matched, custom teal powder coating done on the CCW faces, and an authentic Gen.1 Mugen rear wing, the car project continues to keep going…

…and going harder every year.

iM: Random Snaps

Yesterday turned out to be one awesome, hot day. Like always, whenever it’s nice we like to shoot the shit and drive around aimlessly. Went to Peter’s to grab a bite and some milkshakes and then cruised out. Got some snaps… just to keep you busy until you guys get your shirts 😉

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Chinook Meet – April 6,…

Another nice weather Wednesday equals another 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Chinook meet. Hopefully the weather keeps getting better. If you try to make it out, then we promise try our best to get out there each week to take pics. Who knows, maybe we’ll find cars that are worthy to be featured on the site!

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Chinook Meet – March 30,…

With the exception of the 20cm of snow we got today, it seems as though the coming of the spring/summer season is imminent. And with that brings the return of the 403 Honda/Beyond.ca weekly meets. Here are a few pictures from the first meet of 2011 (and a preview/debut of a few people’s cars summer mode). Be sure to show up when you can to keep the meets busy and fun and to check out some rides. These meets happen every Wednesday evening at Chinook Centre in the rear upper parkade.

iM Random Snaps: Summers almost here

It’s been a long winter, but with the official first day of spring just around the corner (Mar.20) the excitement is rising here at illmotion. The weather is looking promising for the next week and we hope it sticks around so we can start doing what we do.

Here’s a little look back to last year and a glimpse of what’s to come for the year.

Looking forward to more track days,

Late night cruises,

Dumped cars,

Sick photoshoots,

Upcoming features,

& Lastly ‘Made you Look’

Can’t wait for summer!!!

“Black and Yellow, Black and Yellow, Black and Yellow, Black and Yellow”

The unmistakable lyrics to Wiz Khalifa’s single is what comes to mind when Reggie’s car is spotted around town. Aside from it’s color motif, it’s unique stance definitely grabs the attention of anyone who notices it, as does it’s roaring Buddy Club Spec 2 exhaust.

Inspired by Dal Law’s Integra Type-R, Reggie had his mind set on building one for himself. To set this project apart from the other Integras in Calgary, Reggie built this car with “form over function” in mind.

Before “Form Over Function” however, Reggie also took this vehicle to Race City track days to get a better feel for the car and to see how it performed on the track. With a fine list of suspension mods, there is no second thoughts on how well the vehicle conquered the track.

Reggie’s attention to detail cannot go unnoticed as well. With simple things like the Integra Type-R front end conversion and Phoenix Yellow paint job, shaved door moldings, Status seats with Takata harnesses, and a Honda S2000 push button start retrofit, there’s no doubting Reggie’s pursuit for one crazy Integra.

With “Black & Yellow” being the theme of Reggie’s car, don’t be surprised if you hear that track playing in his whip at a stop light. And just like Wiz says, “No Keys, Push To Start!” Uh huh, you know what it is!

iM: Punit’s Integra – Take One

We went out a few weeks back and I borrowed Prashant’s 5D to record a short movie. My first take at it, but I think it turned out alright. I still got a lot of practicing to do with iMovie and such, but enjoy! Hit the HD button to watch it in High Def!

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Chinook Meet – Nov. 3,…

Well, it looks like this may be the last one of this season, its supposed to get cold here by Monday with snow, so if the hardcores are up to it, we will hold them downstairs. If not, you won’t see any meet pictures until next season when it warms up again. Was busier this week than last because it was a bit nicer out, so the turnout was better.

Hopefully the winter meets still continue, and I can get more pics for you guys. If not, it was fun, thanks to everyone for coming out, and hope to see everyone again next season!

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Chinook Meet – Oct. 27/10

Even though it was freezing out, I went out to the weekly 403 Honda/Beyond Meet at Chinook Centre. For those that don’t know, these meets are held every Wednesday night at the top level of the Chinook Centre rear parkade. I encourage everyone to try to come out and support your local meets, since they help keep our car community alive and motivated.

I tried my best to get some decent pictures with the crappy lighting (or lack of), and my frozen fingers in the 0 degree Celsius night.

I’ll be out again with the camera this week, so come out if you can. It’s forecasted to be 10+ degrees that day, so it should be a bit warmer than the last one. Who knows, maybe we’re looking for our next features while we’re out there! 😉
