Tokyo Auto Salon – The Wild, Weird & Crazy

Finished off our Tokyo Auto Salon coverage a couple weeks back but I wanted to save one last post for all the wild, weird and crazy stuff that was on display at the show.

Lots of vans, lambo doors, crazy paint and diamond stitched interiors.

iM Shop Spotlight: Super Autobacs

Whenever I see pictures inside Super Autobacs it always reminds of those ghetto shops that are sometimes in malls around here and all they sell it altezza taillights and model cars but replaced with every baller JDM brand you can imagine. Walls of rare wheels, limited edition Recaro seats and everything in between.

Did someone say wheels?

Wall o’ Nardi wheels

Need any small accessories?

No, how about a carbon J’s intake.

And everyone favorite rack…. altezza’s on altezza’s on altezza’s.

And that’s a wrap as far as our Tokyo Auto Salon/JDM shop coverage goes. We’d like to throw a huge thanks out to Galen Wan for the amazing stuff he’s been able to provide us with over the last month or so. Also to our friends over at Stretch & Poke! be sure to check out their site when you have minute for their take on all this crazy JDM stuff.

We’ll be back in the coming days/weeks with a couple more local features & videos that we’ve saved up from the summer months which I’m sure you guys will enjoy.

iM Shop Spotlight: Backyard Special

Today we’re going to be sharing some pictures from Galen’s stop at one of my personal favorite JDM Honda Tuners, Backyard Special. I remember reading a story in Honda Tuning a while back about Hatsuo Suzuki the CEO of Backyard Special and his love for Honda’s from the very beginning. The way the story was written I got the feeling that he just loves what he does and I think it really shows in the products they continue to produce.

He opened this shop back in 1983 and has been tuning Honda’s in the same location since then.

As usual for all the JDM shops space is not plentiful. Also peep the S600, Hatsuo’s favorite Honda.

There was also a couple other Honda’s parked outside on display.

And then at the end of his visit Mr. Suzuki gave Galen a ‘spirited’ drive back to the train station in the company CRZ.

iM Shop Spotlight: J’s Racing

In recent years J’s Racing popularity has gone through the roof. Their products are distributed through many North American distributors now and slightly easier (minus the wait times) to get into your hands and onto your car. Also attributed to their popularity would be the current trend to build track ready cars with track inspired parts. Whether that’s your thing or not, the quality of J’s parts can’t be denied.

First up we have the J’s Racing CRZ. Galen wasn’t able to get too much information out of the J’s crew but he did learn that they’ve up’d the compression and are continuing to find ways to squeeze more power out of Honda’s latest sporty hybrid.

Euro CTR, no big deal.

The J’s Racing shop dog Ryoma just chilling on the front steps.

Next up are a couple of the Honda Fits/Jazz that they had parked out front all rocking the crazy aero kits, wings and exhausts.

And even more parked out on the street.

iM Shop Spotlight: Feel’s, Seeker & K.Break

Next us on our Japan Shop Spotlights we have Honda tuners Feel’s & Seeker and also a quick stop at K.Break.

| Feel’s:

First up is Feel’s who had their street & track CTR’s on display. If I owned an 8th gen civic I think that there would be lots of Feel’s areo finding its way onto the car. Love the widebody fenders on these two.

More Feel’s pictures can be found on our Flickr page HERE

| Seeker:

Unfortunately there wasn’t anyone at Seeker that spoke any english so it was just a quick stop checking out their parking lot which had a couple CTR’s, a CRZ and a old school prelude.

Couple more Seeker pictures can be found on our Flickr page HERE

| K.Break:

Last up for today is JDM VIP tuner K.Break. Mostly know for their VIP bodykits and aero products. They were closed when Galen stopped by to visit so here’s a couple shots of the cars that were parked outside.

Air ride obviously not in it’s hardparking position.

iM Shop Spotlight : Spoon/Type One

After Galen’s trip to Tokyo Auto Salon 2012, he also decided to check out some of the Japanese performance shops that we all know and love. One of his first stops was Spoon Sports/Type One. Unfortunately Spoon is under some renovations so he wasn’t able to get inside. Regardless this post is dedicated to the Honda fanboys. Enjoy!

Spoon CRZs

Spoon CR93 and a Couple ECUs

Spoon Motor Rib for the Honda CRZ.

Couple of cars outside. Spoon Civic and Spoon Honda S2000.

Kind of funny seeing the Mugen RR Civic at Type One.

iM Event Coverage: Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 Part 5

First I just wanted to recap and link up all the previous posts in case you missed some or are just tuning in now. There’s pretty crazy stuff in all the links so if you have a minute definitely check them out.

Part 1 – The Preview

Part 2 – Mugen RR CRZ + more

Part 3 – The Vendors

Part 4 – BenSopra GTR’s + more

Second off I’d like to thank Galen for all the awesome coverage he’s been able to send our way. When he mentioned he was attending the event I knew our readers would enjoy it, which I hope you have, cause we’ve enjoyed being able to share it.

Also we’d like to thank our friends over at Stretch & Poke! for working with us on our first major colab work with another online blog. Who better to share the material with than another original and Canadian blog. Keep it up guys! And stay tuned in the coming weeks for even more work with S&P!

Onto the new stuff I think this is going to be it for actual serious event coverage. Don’t want to overload everyone so we’ll close it out today.

Kinda skipped over this pretty quick the other day but the BRZ STI concept was looking pretty damn good.

Missed these the first time around… couple mint, old school Nissan’s.

Amuse 370z that was located in the Advan both.

Seen a couple Nissan Cubes rolling around locally and thought how sick they’d looked slammed to the ground. Yup!

Veilside booth with some crazy over the top body kits.

As you can probably tell from the previous posts, there were GTR’s everywhere. This one care of Kansai Service.

Spearmint Rhino RWB

All black errthing… with orange calipers.

RE Amemiya both with some interesting aero.

Option 2 booth with a build/project car looking great for being in pieces.

Still have some other random stuff from TAS 2012 that we’ll post up later in the week or maybe early next.

Also if there’s anything you guys want to see more of let us know in the comment section below or on our Facebook page and we’ll do our best to post it up at a later time.

iM Event Coverage: Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 Part 4

Going to jump into some more coverage of a some other cars that caught my eye.

First up, and now that I’ve been through the pics several times this is probably my favorite car of the show…. the Greddy X BenSopra GTR. I would agree that the aero is way over the top but what the hell, why not. One piece front end, rear bumper mounted GT wing, crazy widebody fenders and vents everywhere haha. Go big or go home.

With the aero kit running a staggering 3,500,000 JPY ($46,000 CAD) and the wing another 500,000 JPY ($6,500 CAD) to state this kit doesn’t come cheap would be an understatement!

And here’s a couple more shots of one of the other BenSopra GTR’s that was on display.

We posted the new Varis Evo X the other day (cause it’s sick!) but none of their new STI aero kit. To tell you the truth I scolled right though the pics the first couple passed and didn’t even notice it but anyways here it is, Varis STI.

Sick stance bro! Infinit M45?

World’s. Sickest. Prius.

Knight Sports RX8

Looks like the boys over at Tommy Kaira were able to finish off their cars

HKS 86

How do you make a Mugen RR Civic even better? Deck it out with J’s goodies ,weld in a cage and slap on some ITB’s.

Sessions Toyota Aristo with a crazy rear bumper exit exhaust.

That’s all for today. Will probably close out the real coverage tomorrow before we roll through all the weird and crazy stuff from TAS.

Also once again, Stretch & Poke coverage HERE

iM Event Coverage: Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 Part 3

Today we’re going take a quick look at some the more popular manufacturer booths that were at the show. Also this is only a small portion of the booths/products on display, figured I keep it limited to some of the more recognizable names.

Getting started with Work Wheels.

They dropped their new Meister S1R & M1R wheels last year which they had on display in their various color/finish options. Also looks like they’re offering the Meister in truck fitment.

They also had their Equip line of wheels on display. Wish I had a car to rock those Meister CR-01’s (bottom wheel).

Work also had some variation of their classic Emotion CR’s on display. Not sure about the colored spokes but it’s always nice to see new wheel designs coming out of Japan.

What’s TAS without some GT wings. Voltx with their collection of wings, lots of choices for Evo and STI owners.

Defi with gauges on gauges on gauges….

Everyones favorite JDM wheel manufacturer! VOLK

TE37v’s available in 17″ sizing…. sick!

Couple new models on display

Similar to the Super Lap TE’s Volk now has a variation on the RE-30. Love the flat finish!

Rays Gram Light on display in all sorts of color variations

Not sure how long the 57Xtremes have been out but they were all over the show. 86/BRZ fitment coming soon.

Projet Mu whadup!

Of course Tein made an appearance. And like everyone else there 86/BRZ parts are on their way.

From the pictures coming out of TAS so far BBS had their fair share of GTR’s rocking their rollers. Loving the flat black/polished lip look.

Advan with tons of concave on display.

Bride with all sorts of material colors that I’ve never seen.

Endless $$$ brakes

Galen knows whats up with this! Vertex wheel crew! haha

More coming up again tomorrow!
