iM Highlight: Josh’s Honda S2000

When the New Year rolls around it usually is the beginning of a countdown for me. It marks a few more months until we get to see the first few days of nice weather on the west coast, and with this brings the excitment of driving to popular spots to find others similar to you, who bring their cars to kick it and hang out, followed by evenings where you drive aimlessly having the best time doing so. From the point of first snowfall until the spring season hits, that alone feels like a year in itself. After a few mild rainy days washing away road salt and melting snow, this is when it feels like the perfect opportunity to get a small taste of what is to come.

These are my exact thoughts while sitting in class.

With just minutes left to go in class, I found myself scanning through my phone contacts trying to convince someone to bring out their pride and joy. After a good search, I stumbled across my good friend Josh. With recent vandalism misfortunes to his car and just getting it back from the shop, I knew Josh would be keen on washing it for some photos as it looks the best it has since he purchased it at the beginning of last summer. Within half an hour we found ourselves at the nearest car wash, followed by heading out to the spot where we found ourselves reliving the good times with good friends and cars, which we will all look forward to in the near future.

Until then, let’s have a look at Josh’s fresh Honda S2000…

iM Flashback: Driven 2010 Recap

With Driven 2012 coming up quickly, we thought it’d be a good idea to look back and see what everyone had to offer in 2010 and what we can look forward to for this year. Since Driven was skipped for us in 2011 – there has been a significant amount of time for everybody to get their whips refreshed. From new cars, to new parts, complete overhauls or tweaks to an already existing minty car, we think this will be the best Driven yet. We have a handful of fresh new faces joining us this year and it’s only a matter of time before we all gather at the Olympic Oval once again.

Looking back – many cars are now gone and have been passed on to new owners and some remain alive and well and will be joining us once again. Let’s take a look…

Dal’s K20 Type R – this was a long-time build for Dal and it was pristine. Reggie now has possession of it and stripped it apart with new plans. From what I’ve seen, he’s doing a great job and going from the ground up with new parts left right and center. It should be at the show this year, so look forward to that!

Alan’s JDM conversion CSX Type-S. So clean and one of the first (and probably still only) to do the conversion with legit OEM parts and tastefully IMO. This is out of his possession now.

Jackie’s infamous S2000. Jackie has some plans for the upcoming year and he won’t be showing in Driven, but he’ll be coming out for our show & shine with new toys to boot.

Hoang’s K20 Civic. One of the most unique and cleanest builds I got to see in 2010. Everything from the J’s wing to the custom splitter and canards and his I.C.E. set up. Not to mention the K20 under the hood.

Steve Poyntz’s 2JZ swap Cressida on 350Z wheels. Super simple and clean build with a whole lotta power.

Chris’s Triumph TR7. Funny story with Chris and his placement in our booth. We had just finished setting everyone up and cleaning our cars and we were just about to leave the place when we were told that there was one more guy in our group. None of us knew of anyone extra and we had placed everyone on our list. We agreed to see the car and the first thing we said was “fuck yeah, we’ll take it”. Chris and his triumph are one of his kind – nothing you’d ever really see on the streets and it’s powered by an SR20. Definitely a keeper.

JC’s Corolla. This is also going through a nice change for 2012 and I’m looking forward to see it. It’s gone from simple and conservative to… well… you’ll have to see. :)

Jamie’s S2000 – this thing is beat on the track like no tomorrow. Jamie drives it hard and rightfully so. He had got his wheels powdercoated that day or the day before the show too so they were clean as hell.

Punit’s Integra. I remember this was the year that he did the K24 swap and it took weeks on end to get it done. One problem would come up after another and the show came up super quick. Luckily he got it running and entered. Wait till you guys see what he has in store this year.

Gopesh’s GTI – this is also going through a nice overhaul for this year as well.

Terence Wah’s S2000. Another S2000 that saw the track often and built with function in mind. Also another that is no longer in Terence’s possession. He now has a new toy…

Derrek Poyntz’s recently finished Integra RS. This was finished hours before roll-in and ready to go. All the graffiti on this was done by hand! The Calgary skyline is also on the valve cover.

Terence Ng’s Merc. More plans for this later on as well…

iM Random Snaps: Nick’s J’s Racing Honda S2000

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Nick’s S2000. Just a few weeks ago, Nick had officially sold the car and moved on. Here are few random shots that we took of his car last year before the end of summer that we’ve been holding on to.

Our guess is that we’ll probably see more of what Nick has in store later on this year, but for now – enjoy what’s left of “true attention to detail”

iM Shop Spotlight: J’s Racing

In recent years J’s Racing popularity has gone through the roof. Their products are distributed through many North American distributors now and slightly easier (minus the wait times) to get into your hands and onto your car. Also attributed to their popularity would be the current trend to build track ready cars with track inspired parts. Whether that’s your thing or not, the quality of J’s parts can’t be denied.

First up we have the J’s Racing CRZ. Galen wasn’t able to get too much information out of the J’s crew but he did learn that they’ve up’d the compression and are continuing to find ways to squeeze more power out of Honda’s latest sporty hybrid.

Euro CTR, no big deal.

The J’s Racing shop dog Ryoma just chilling on the front steps.

Next up are a couple of the Honda Fits/Jazz that they had parked out front all rocking the crazy aero kits, wings and exhausts.

And even more parked out on the street.

Couple more J’s pictures can be found on our Flickr page HERE

iM Feature: Jamie Fry’s S2000

For anyone that was paying close attention to the Racecity track day coverage throughout this past summer you may have noticed a very brightly colored, in your face, aggressive drop top that attended virtually every single event. That would be Jamie Fry in his ‘always top down’ J’s equipped S2000. Jamie never misses an opportunity to put all his expensive race ready parts to the test at the track. Damn rights!

Jamie also enjoys rolling around the city snapping dozens of necks daily as he drives this car every single day. To say this car grabs attention would be an understatement. I wouldn’t doubt that it’s caused an accident or two from onlookers haha.

As noted below in the mod list Jamie (as well as Jason Divina who was the previous owner of this car) both chose to entrust J’s Racing with the majority of the modifications for the engine as well as exterior. In particular the uber rare J’s version 1 lip and canards, both of which have seen extensive damage multiple times from pylons, steep curb cuts or small children playing in the chicane. Make no mistake, Jamie is no hard parker.

Rolling on freshly powdercoated Volk Racing CE28n’s the white and yellow color combo pop like crazy!

iM Feature: JKL’s Internet Sensation S2K

Winter is coming up and the weather is starting to suck so much that you can see your breath during the mornings and evenings. Next thing you know, there’s a foot of snow outside your driveway and there’s no such thing as tucking tire anymore.

Jackie shows everyone that there is no such thing as being too low. Some are confused as to how he does it, but he does and he does it well. Every piece of the car is put together with attention to detail – something that seems common among the other S2000 owners like Nick and Jackson.

Custom candy blue TE37’s in 18×9.5 +22 all around, ASM bumper, Spoon buckets and diffuser, J’s carbon GT wing and titanium exhaust and a whole bunch of other goodies that make this car just as good as it looks.

This will probably be the last and potentially the only shoot that we get of his car before he heads back home to Victoria, B.C. Perhaps next year he’ll have something different in store and we can get that up on illmotion for you guys as well. Enjoy.

iM Random Snaps: Gas Station Take Over

Some overdue shots from weeks back when we shot Ryan, Nick and Jackson’s car out at Aspen Hills. Later during that evening Jackie and Jeevs showed up and we got them in there for some shots as well. Check it out, with more pics after the jump.

Jackie’s S2k – the candy blue TE37’s pop so nicely in these shots

And last but not least – Jeevs’ Kouki 180SX.. A while back we posted a video that he made of his 240 that you should definitely check out. Those that of you just joining us – here’s the link JDM GVS Kouki 180SX

iM Feature: Jackson Chen’s Honda S2000

Along with Ryan’s MR2, we were also given the honor of shooting Jackson’s “Doin’ ASM Everything” S2000.

Many of you have probably read about this car in Honda Tuning, and being that it is a local car, it’s only proper we feature it the right way here on illmotion!

Inspired by the ASM Race Demo S2000 (as well as fellow S2K homie Nick Chow’s J’s Racing S2000), Jackson’s “RICEPOT” is definitely one of those Hondas you cannot ignore if you ever come across it.

With it’s Grand Prix White exterior, red interior, freshly fitted Bronze Volk RE-30s, and of course it’s roaring ITBs, this is one S2000 that will simply leave you speechless.

I guess we can call this Part 2 from our “Ultra Shoot” ha ha!

On to the pics…

iM Feature: Jason’s FGizzle

Finally after a long long wait, I was able to get up and do a shoot on my car while it’s still clean and accident-free. It is pretty much done now that I added the front lip so this is how it will sit all summer. I really feel that it has come a long way from previous years and I never thought I’d say it but “I’m done”.
All it really needs now are regular maintenance and squash air fresheners every few months. Hopefully I can pick up a new whip in the next year and start with a fresh new template again.
Thanks to Arif and JC for coming out and helping out with the shoot yesterday. Turned out pretty good. I think it really captured all of the angles nicely.

iM: jhoang x JLAW wheel swap – Part II

Part II is of my car on Jackie’s TE37’s.. I personally felt that the blue didn’t match bang on, partially because of my red seats – but they were still pretty sick to see.
Concave legendary wheels, custom candy blue, no rub – sick! Anyways.. onto the pictures
