Another car season in full swing can only mean one thing: the return of the 403 Honda/Beyond.ca weekly Wednesday meets! Quite a diverse bunch of cars showed up, and nice to see what was new with all the rides, and new rides in general. Didn’t get that many pictures, but as it starts to get busier every week, we will try to get more and more photos and keep things diverse.
If you feel like attending, these are held every Wednesday if the weather is decent at the top rear parkade of Chinook Centre/Mall.
With Driven 2012 coming up quickly, we thought it’d be a good idea to look back and see what everyone had to offer in 2010 and what we can look forward to for this year. Since Driven was skipped for us in 2011 – there has been a significant amount of time for everybody to get their whips refreshed. From new cars, to new parts, complete overhauls or tweaks to an already existing minty car, we think this will be the best Driven yet. We have a handful of fresh new faces joining us this year and it’s only a matter of time before we all gather at the Olympic Oval once again.
Looking back – many cars are now gone and have been passed on to new owners and some remain alive and well and will be joining us once again. Let’s take a look…
Dal’s K20 Type R – this was a long-time build for Dal and it was pristine. Reggie now has possession of it and stripped it apart with new plans. From what I’ve seen, he’s doing a great job and going from the ground up with new parts left right and center. It should be at the show this year, so look forward to that!
Alan’s JDM conversion CSX Type-S. So clean and one of the first (and probably still only) to do the conversion with legit OEM parts and tastefully IMO. This is out of his possession now.
Jackie’s infamous S2000. Jackie has some plans for the upcoming year and he won’t be showing in Driven, but he’ll be coming out for our show & shine with new toys to boot.
Hoang’s K20 Civic. One of the most unique and cleanest builds I got to see in 2010. Everything from the J’s wing to the custom splitter and canards and his I.C.E. set up. Not to mention the K20 under the hood.
Steve Poyntz’s 2JZ swap Cressida on 350Z wheels. Super simple and clean build with a whole lotta power.
Chris’s Triumph TR7. Funny story with Chris and his placement in our booth. We had just finished setting everyone up and cleaning our cars and we were just about to leave the place when we were told that there was one more guy in our group. None of us knew of anyone extra and we had placed everyone on our list. We agreed to see the car and the first thing we said was “fuck yeah, we’ll take it”. Chris and his triumph are one of his kind – nothing you’d ever really see on the streets and it’s powered by an SR20. Definitely a keeper.
JC’s Corolla. This is also going through a nice change for 2012 and I’m looking forward to see it. It’s gone from simple and conservative to… well… you’ll have to see.
Jamie’s S2000 – this thing is beat on the track like no tomorrow. Jamie drives it hard and rightfully so. He had got his wheels powdercoated that day or the day before the show too so they were clean as hell.
Punit’s Integra. I remember this was the year that he did the K24 swap and it took weeks on end to get it done. One problem would come up after another and the show came up super quick. Luckily he got it running and entered. Wait till you guys see what he has in store this year.
Gopesh’s GTI – this is also going through a nice overhaul for this year as well.
Terence Wah’s S2000. Another S2000 that saw the track often and built with function in mind. Also another that is no longer in Terence’s possession. He now has a new toy…
Derrek Poyntz’s recently finished Integra RS. This was finished hours before roll-in and ready to go. All the graffiti on this was done by hand! The Calgary skyline is also on the valve cover.
Terence Ng’s Merc. More plans for this later on as well…
With the season nearing the end, and with the impending coming of cooler weather, we were happy to have such an awesome warm day for the final GarageBox Track Day of the year and possible last at Race City. It was quite a busy day with a lot of cars out on the track, including a few owned/driven by our very own team members.
I tried to get everything that I could, but a bunch of pics didn’t turn out unfortunately, but all of them can be found here: flickr link
A special thanks goes out to Paul and the crew at GarageBox for putting on another awesome track day. Here’s hoping that there can be more!
Keepin’ things going with more coverage from DTP Vancouver, Part 3 of our iM Event Coverage will focus on the illmotion crew and the awesome homies who came out to represent with us.
Gotta give a huge shout out and thanks to Steve, Terence, Gopesh, Chris, James, Kirsten/Brodie, Michael and Dave (and the others who came along for the ride) for reppin’ with us and cruising along with us on the drive to Vancouver. It was definitely a pleasure meeting those we haven’t met before and kickin’ it with you guys at the show!
The rain did have its downside, but rockin’ with the crew and taking home 4 awards made it all worth it! In the end, it was all about the people at hand getting together for the love of this lifestyle we lead.
Once again, a HUGE congratulations to Chris, James and Michael on winning in their respective classes. Good job guys!
Lastly, big ups to illmotion’s very own Punit Patel for winning 2nd Place Best Acura. I don’t think there is a single person in the crew who hasn’t put in work in that Integra, so it was definitely a good feeling to see you win that award. Congrats homie!
We aren’t done yet. We all have our own perspective on the show and so we’ll just keep posting until we’ve exhausted our supply. It never hurts to see more pictures 😀
My favourite booth of the night – I swear I was in J’s Racing/Voltex heaven. I think I have GT wing fever.
The illmotion Dudes headed out to Vancouver, BC on July 16, 2011 at the Rocky Mountaineer Station to attend the DTP Auto Show presented by Yokohama Tires. The caliber of cars that were present at the show (and the parking lot) just left everybody from the crew speechless. Vancouver’s scene brought everything to the table from highly modified sport compacts and even a few modified luxury vehicles.
Aside from the rain, the Vancouver DTP Auto Show was unlike anything we’ve seen in Calgary and it was good to see how other car enthusiasts in Canada are reppin’ for their city. The rain didn’t stop anyone from attending the show and it was definitely nice seeing some familiar faces and meeting new ones!
Congratulations going out to illmotion’s very own Punit Patel for winning 2nd Place Best Acura. Also a huge shout out and congratulations going out to Chris Gudzowsky (Best Classic Showoff), Michael Kwan (Best Stance Showoff) and James Ditchfield (Best Subaru) on their awards as well.
With illmotion going home with 4 awards and an amazing modified car representation from Vancouver, the DTP Auto Show was definitely worth the trip!
A huge thanks to all of you who came out to the show and much appreciation and thanks to those who attended the DTP show to rep alongside with us! The drive to and from was a blast! (Stay tuned for Random Shots of the trip)
Another week brings another post with pics from the weekly 403 Honda/Beyond Meet. There was a threat of rain, which stopped people from showing up, but luckily only a few drops hit us at Chinook. Hopefully the weather is better and we see everyone for the next one!
Once again, we have our weekly beyond meet and it only continues to get bigger. This was my first time out this year and I have to say, it was nice to see so many legit cars coming out nowadays. Compared to last year, where we would see maybe 10-15 cars every week filling up one row, we’re getting to 4 and maybe even 5 rows some nights.
One thing I’d also like to say is that it seems that everyone has really stepped their game up over the last few seasons which is awesome to see. Nice parts, nicely kept cars, new things to see.. I think that’s what our car scene needs.
Lastly, like all of the posts we’ve had about the beyond meets.. We just want to stress that good behavior at the meets is expected. Last night was a good night for everybody minus the guys that think letting ‘er rip down the ramp is still cool. Let’s keep this up and make it a good time for everyone.
Well, I’m glad we had a more behaved crowd last Wednesday. Also, it was nice to see a few of the Beyond ballers come out, as well as a few OGs. As well, the meets are getting pretty busy, which is good to see. Hope the trend continues!
Despite being somewhat still chilly out, last Wednesdays 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet was surprisingly busy. There was an awesome turnout, it was great to see lots of cool cars out, and tons people wondering around. I unfortunately was inside eating when (from what I’ve heard) a bunch of cops showed up. Apparently someone reported a big fight going on, but after some clarification that there was no fight that occurred, they left. With that, comes a reminder/public service announcement: We are fortunate enough that Chinook Centre security is cool with us being up there, please don’t ruin it for us by showing off. Please drive slowly through the parkades (especially up and down the ramp), no loud music, no burnouts, no erratic behaviour.
I tried to get as many pics as I could of all the rides, but can only fit so many on this post, so there are more here: MORE PICS
Hope you enjoy the pics, and if you’re in the Calgary area, we’d love to see you out next week! As usual, weather pending, these meets happen every Wednesday from 7-9:30 at the upper rear parkade of Chinook Centre.
