iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond Meet – July 6, 2011

Another week, and another busy 403 Honda/Beyond Meet at Chinook Centre. Lots of cars out this week, and a bunch that don’t normally show up, so it was a good time had by all. Weather was great this week, so that helped out a lot. Here are a bunch of pics:

Even my goddaughter knows whats up with the NSX:

“Yes Kylah, its rolling on Volk TE-37s…”

Before I finish this post, I do need to address a major concern that a few of our members have noticed close to the end of the meets. If you bring any food or drink out to the meet or go inside to grab something, please pick up after yourselves. There is a lot of bottles, cups, and general garbage that gets left behind whenever the meet is done. I realize the garbage can is a little bit of a walk away, but the staff at Chinook kindly let us use the parkade to meet on Wednesdays, lets show them a little bit of respect, and at least keep the place clean. I’d hate for us to lose a spot to meet because people leave a mess.

Weather permitting, we will see you all next week!

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond Meet – June 29, 2011

I know its a little late, but here are some pics from last weeks 403 Honda/Beyond meet. I apologize, it wasn’t that busy last week, and I was kinda lazy/tired from work and didn’t take that many pictures, but here are a few anyways. See everyone at the next one!

iM Event Coverage: WSC Supermeet 2011 – June 25,…

The Western Subaru Club held their Supermeet this weekend at Vex Performance’s new location in Calgary. We decided to roll up considering that two of our members own Subarus, and my brother tagged along in his STI. There were a huge range of Subarus there, along with some other cars as well. Lots to look at, lots of people to talk to. Unfortunately due to prior engagements, we were not able to stay that long, so we missed out on others that came later on in the day, but we got a lot of pictures while we were there.

We also got a chance to meet Johnny Summers (driver, and owner) of Vex, and we had a great conversation about what he does, cars in general, and future plans. I can say that he is a very nice gentleman to talk to and very down to earth, with major beliefs on the shops tuning philosophies. We also spoke about the possibility of doing a shop spotlight on Vex when they’ve had a bit more time to get set up with more equipment and parts after getting rid of a bunch of stuff before their move from Red Deer. Look forward to that coming up in the future.

Special thanks goes out to Vex Performance, and the WSC for setting up this meet.

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond Meet – June 22, 2011

With the recent end of the hockey season and finally a nice clearing for the weather, our weekly meets have resumed. It’s so sick how the turnouts lately have been quite large and people are bringing out their rides and sharing their effort. Unfortunately, it gives us more work to do to take these pics, but in the end it helps make for a unique post every week.

Lots of crazy cars this week. Let’s keep this up and bring all your friends!

iM HIghlight: Jason’s Burple Beast

It’s been a long time coming for me and I’m happy to finally have this rolling nicely.
Ever since the last year with my Civic, I’ve felt that it was time to move on to something bigger and better. Those that knew me for a while also knew that I’ve wanted an STI way back before I could even drive. That day has finally come and now that it has, I’m planning on doing it all over again.

February 2011 – I walked into the Subaru dealership ready to put a deposit down so that by spring, I would have it ready for me to drive. Lady luck must have been on my side that day because the exact one I wanted was the only one sitting on the lot. Half an hour later, I signed the papers and took it home a few days later. That night, I had already ordered parts for it to slap on as soon as possible.

Thanks to Rhys at Revwerks for hooking me up with a set of WORK XT7’s as quickly as I needed them. In 18×9.5 +20, it’s not super aggressive, but it’s not super laid back either. I decided to play it safe for now to see how much I can push the limits of this widebody. Interestingly enough, it’s probably harder to fit these wheels under the wheel wells of the GR body than the Civic’s body. But with little rolling and pulling, they fit perfectly. Some cracked fenders and tire shredding here and there, but it’s all good now.

Another special thanks to Dave at Screamin’ Paintworks for working with me for a span of 3 weeks to get the paint just right. A special 7 stage house of kolor custom burple was what ended up on the wheels. 2 bases of gold, 2 coats of blue and a final 3 topcoats of the unique burple. The outcome is definitely something that you’d have to see in person. Blue in the shade, purple in the light and at certain angles, you’ll see gold flake.

The suspension of course was one of the first things to be installed. A set of BC BR racing coilovers to get the car sitting low, and Cusco lower control arms to bring in the camber and I was good to go. Still playing around with suspension, I’m still working on going lower.

While the car still sits relatively stock performance and looks wise, my biggest “want” was to get the car sitting pretty and looking unique. With many more parts on the way and the need to be patient for parts to come out for a newer chassis, hopefully I’ll have some more updates as the year goes on. If you spot me, be sure to wave!

iM: Lazy Sunday – May 29, 2011

What do you do when its gorgeous out, all the whips are clean, and everyone has their wheels/new parts on the car? If if you’re like us, there is only one answer: you cruise. And cruise is exactly what we did. You know how it goes… get something to eat, hang out for a bit, roll to another spot to hang out, decide to shoot the whips, then cruise some more. F the crazy gas prices…

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond Meet – April 27, 2011

Here’s some pics from the 403 Honda/Beyond Meet from April 27, 2011. In my last meet blog entry, I re-iterated that we are privileged to be allowed to park at the Chinook Centre parkade and hang out every week, and would like everyone on their best behaviour so we can continue to be welcomed there. Unfortunately, a Beyond member decided to do just the opposite. The result: he was banned from Beyond.ca. We here at illmotion do not take this lightly either. Please behave.

iM Highlight: Tamed JDM Beasts

Over the past few dreadful winter months, I have had the chance to talk to and get to know Cecilia. Cecilia had contacted me asking for a photoshoot for her Evo X and her husband Colin’s STi. Cecilia and Colin have owned their own fair share of different types of cars from a BMW 5 series to a Honda S2000.

The best thing about these two cars is although they are rivals, they compliment each other perfectly. Having both of these cars in the garage makes for an interesting combo. Cecilia and Colin may not be hardcore tuners that go for the slammed look or the huge turbo to put down 600hp, but they have kept modification subtle enough to be different, which is what we love.

Check out these two beastly whips

Together… at last?

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Chinook Meet – April 20,…

Despite being somewhat still chilly out, last Wednesdays 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet was surprisingly busy. There was an awesome turnout, it was great to see lots of cool cars out, and tons people wondering around. I unfortunately was inside eating when (from what I’ve heard) a bunch of cops showed up. Apparently someone reported a big fight going on, but after some clarification that there was no fight that occurred, they left. With that, comes a reminder/public service announcement: We are fortunate enough that Chinook Centre security is cool with us being up there, please don’t ruin it for us by showing off. Please drive slowly through the parkades (especially up and down the ramp), no loud music, no burnouts, no erratic behaviour.

I tried to get as many pics as I could of all the rides, but can only fit so many on this post, so there are more here: MORE PICS

Hope you enjoy the pics, and if you’re in the Calgary area, we’d love to see you out next week! As usual, weather pending, these meets happen every Wednesday from 7-9:30 at the upper rear parkade of Chinook Centre.

Readers Rides: Austin Mardian’s Subaru STI

Austin Mardian, one of our awesome readers submitted his ride to us to showcase the work that he’s done on his whip and what better way to do that then to get it in to us?

Austin has had the car for just over 2 years and through the ups and downs that he’s been through with the car, he’s still managed to make it look dope. His problem was trying to get enough funds to make it look good, but instead always ended up dumping money into other little things. This made him into more of a performance guy and just never really got into the looks department as much.

The good thing about Austin is that he still had an eclectic appreciation for other things like fitment and aesthetics. Power wasn’t always on his mind. After hanging with his friends that were well into the fitment game, he decided that it was his time. Within a week, Austin was able to do it all – fenders, suspension, wheels and proper sizing. There was no way he was going to do it half-assed and if he was going to get it done, it was going to be done right.

Austin says that it might not be the most baller or flashiest Subie out there, but for what he’s done I think we can all say that we can appreciate his work. It looks damn good to us.
