Here on illmotion, we will be doing a new feature which spotlights various shops around Calgary. Since the closing of one of Calgary’s biggest shops, it seems as though a few of us have no idea where to source parts or have installs and repairs done. So with the power of the internet and blogging, why not point you guys in the right direction to find a shop that will most definitely be suitable for your car needs.

Starting off the iM Shop Spotlight we have performance tuning shop, Autodream.

Widely known in Alberta for Nissan performance tuning and modifications, Autodream Owner Nguyen is no stranger when it comes to anything Nissan related. With several trophies displayed in the shop for his 1995 Nissan 240SX, it’s no wonder Nguyen is the go to guy for all the Nissan heads.

Aside from Nissan tuning, Autodream specializes in pretty much anything for all import car makes and models, such as Car Starters & Alarms, Motor Swaps, Dyno Tuning, Wheel Mounting & Balancing and General Car Repairs & Maintenance. And with a Licensed Mechanic in the shop you can also have a Safety Inspection on your vehicle done here.

The thing I love most about Autodream is their friendly and knowledgeable staff. With Marvin and Oliver behind the counter, there’s no stress when it comes to ordering a part or asking any questions regarding whatever the case may be for your vehicle. No matter what car you own, the boys at Autodream are here to make sure you’re given the proper information and knowledge when it comes to modifying your car.

When it comes down to the brands, Autodream is an official distributor for companies such as Megan Racing, Peak Performance, Full-Race, Litech HID, Stance, Supertech, Link ECU, Nistune, Nardi, Origin and CompuStar. But if you’re looking for anything from brands like Volk, Work, Tein, APEXi, HKS, Greddy, Blitz, Tomei, etc; Marvin has no problem sourcing out whatever you need!

Being in the Calgary Auto Industry for 12 years, it’s obvious that the crew here at Autodream is no joke. For any further inquiries, definitely give Marvin or Oliver a call or hit up Autodream’s website at http://www.403drift.com . Be sure to let these guys know illmotion sent you, for a special discount! 😉

Ohh and did we mention the shop is partially run on solar power!

Thought this was a dope video to share. Although many of us here can agree that we wish our speedbumps were that small, it’s still dope nonetheless.

Race City

Calgary Motorsports Meeting

For those local motorists that are residing in the 403, you know that our local race track – Race City, is in danger of being removed. Race city for many of us is a place to take our work of sweat and tears to beat around. With it removed, it means several things.
– Street racing
– Less race enthusiasm
– More accidents

There are many other things that one can come up with. It makes no sense because the city wants street racing to end, yet they remove the source of what many of us call our getaway. Steven Laz – founder of Calgary Racing Core, and a local enthusiast recently attended a meeting in regards to Race City. Here are his minutes:

Over 30 representatives from the racing community were at the meeting hosted by Shane Keating. As everyone was introduced, I was finally able to put some faces to names from the message boards, emails and phone calls that I had worked on over the past 3 months.

Over the ninety minute meeting, many points were covered, including looking into building a new race track, and the economic benefits of keeping the track where it is. Many viewpoints were discussed but the general consensus of the meeting was to bring forward a proposal to the City to keep the track operational. Whether it be a City owned organization like Portland International Raceway which was pointed out to be is fully self sufficient; a Not For Profit owned organization marketed by a for profit company like the NHL; or simply keeping the same business idea running and re-vitalizing it, we need a cohesive plan for dealing with the Race City situation.

The selection of members to the task force was put on the agenda for the next meeting. This task force will put forward a proposal to City Council that will represent the best interests for both the city and racing community. There is a lot of work ahead for this task force, but it does look promising.

Those of you interested in following Steven’s progress and updates can visit Calgary Racing Core. Give him a shout if you have any questions or suggestions.

iM Flashback: ZR Auto Track Day

We all miss the summer, I know everyone thats reading this does. Can’t wait for it to get nice out again and put the WRX back into summer mode. As much as I love blasting through the snow with her in winter mode, I love how she looks in summer mode.

Which got me thinking… how do drivers of exotics do it? I don’t know if I could wait a whole winter to drive my expensive ass car again. It spends most of its life hidden in a garage somewhere or stored.

I started digging back in my pics to look at exotics, and I came across the pics I took at the ZR Auto Track Day back in October. Corey posted some awesome pics of the cars on the track that day, but I figured I’d post a few of the ones I got since I was looking at them and wanted to share.

Check out Corey’s post -> iM Event Coverage: ZR Auto Track Day

Everybody loves exotics, and in reality, who doesn’t? But you know who loves them more? People that can afford them. So how do you live when you know you’ve gotta put your car away for over 6 months? I guess this is how they get it out of their system… by beating on them and using them to their full potential on the track before they have to put them away.

And then we thought that was it. It was late in the day, people were all starting to leave. Zahir (of ZR Auto) had taken the black Ferrari F40 home, so that was that. A few of us stuck around since we had nothing better to do. And then we heard what sounded like an monster, and tried to figure out what would make such a menacing noise. Looks like Zahir had another trick up his sleeve, and came back an hour later, and pulled up into the pits:

See that kid on the left of the picture looking at me funny? Its cause he just finished seeing me jump four feet back because Zahir fired up the Enzo a moment before I took the shot (Prashant can verify the distance of my jump). Seriously, when I was setting up this shot, the car was full frame:

As much as the F40 is my favorite Ferrari of all time, the Enzo is a sight to see and hear on the track:

Hope to see these cars again back on the track this year, and be sure that we will be there to capture them for you guys again.
