iM Feature: Tim’s 1992 Honda Civic EG Hatchback

Functionality.

If there’s anything that all car enthusiasts can appreciate and respect, it’s a car that is built with pure function in mind. Now, not to take away from current craze of stance and aggressive fitment; which is a movement that continues to grow and get better and better with time, there’s something refreshing about owners who build their cars based on true performance and functionality.

A perfect example of a functional build is Tim’s 1993 Honda Civic EG Hatchback.

Before acquiring this vehicle, this little EG was blessed with a K20A2 swap by it’s previous owner. Working with what the car already had, Tim worked with the K20A2 transplant, ultimately giving this EG new life by adding a Comptech Supercharger with an upgraded pulley. A look under the hood though, and one will find more than just a Supercharged K20 swapped into this EG hatch. Tim’s attention to detail is unparalleled as the engine bay sports numerous Mugen Bolts, Hasport K-Swap motor mounts, a JDM Type-R Valve Cover, and various goodies from Spoon Sports such as the Carbon Kevlar Spark Plug Cover, Oil Cap, and Radiator Cap. As Tim wanted to keep this car on the quiet side without sacrificing performance, a Fujitsubo RMO1A exhaust and R-Crew Race Header prevent this EG from drawing unwanted attention during daily drives.

To support what, undeniably, is a little engine bay jam packed with nothing but pure performance, Tim’s consistency is unmatched as the suspension and chassis components on this vehicle definitely stay on point. For a taste of what exactly keeps this EG planted to the road, Tim enlisted a set of T1R B-Max Coilovers, a Carbing 3-Point Strut Tower Bar, M-Factory Roll Center Adjusters, a Comptech Engineerin Rear Subframe Brace, and ITR front and rear sway bars, just to name a few, to ensure maximum contact to the pavement.

As if that wasn’t enough, Tim continues his onslaught of function with a JDM ITR 5-Lug conversion sporting a mint set of 16″ Spoon SW388s with Rays Lug Nuts. To bring this Supercharged K20 EG to a complete stop, Brembo CAD Plated drilled Rotors and Spoon Sports Twin Block Calipers are more than up to the task.

With the desire to keep this EG looking subtle when out on the town, a look at the exterior of this EG and to the ordinary eye one will definitely see a simple and clean looking Honda. However as mentioned before, Tim’s impeccable attention to detail goes a long way as Honda heads will take note of the Spoon Sports Duckbill Rear Wing, the JDM EG6 amber side markers, fog lights, thin side moldings, and even go as far as pointing out the Spoon Sports Wiper Blades. A Wings West RS front lip and Type-R style rear lip are nicely fitted to the front and rear bumpers of this EG, without a doubt giving it a little eye appeal as well.

As functional as this EG is inside and out, what gives this EG a little more sass compared to others out there, is once again, the little details that make such a huge difference with the overall delivery of this vehicle. Leading by example is the JDM EG6 power folding mirrors set up that was put into this Civic. An in-depth look at the interior of this vehicle and one will find tons of JDM EG6 features that were never available (or only available as options) when the EG was introduced to North America such as JDM EG6 clock, OEM power window conversion, JDM EG6 Center Console and even a JDM EG6 Armrest. Aside from the JDM goodies featured inside this EG, Tim drives comfortably in a Spoon Sports Street Bucket Seat (found in the driver and passenger seat) and a Spoon Sports Steering wheel. A custom JDM ITR Rear Bench also sits in the back of Tim’s EG, to once again point out Tim’s incredible attention to detail.

Presenting all enthusiasts with an EG that people can love or hate, one cannot deny Tim’s pursuit of function and all the details that Tim put into his EG to make it one of the most amazing builds we’ve had the pleasure of sharing here with all of you. With today’s car culture continuing to grow, one can conclude that performance and functionality is not going anywhere and will always be an integral part of this scene. While stance and aggressive fitment is all the craze these days, we definitely gotta give praise and show some love and appreciation to the ones who are out here, trying to function.

For your coilovers, what is the ride quality of the spring/damping rates?

Looking for budget coilovers that will increase my handling over stock but still want daily driven comfort.
