iM Highlight: 2008 Mazda "SLOWAGN"
|Words and Photos: Kevin Stachniak
When you hear the growl of Greddy’s Ti-C exhaust, followed by the sound of Turbosmart’s Hybrid blow-off valve, a Mazda hatchback isn’t the first thing you expect to roll up beside you.
Most people assume it’s a Mazda 3 and laugh out-loud ’cause they’re thinking “This fool is running a Honda S2000 Mazda 3…” However that becomes an apparent mistake when the car takes off, as the only thing that this tuned Mazda Speed3 GT shares with the Mazda 3 is the overall body shape.
Lowered on Cobb Springs, and wearing 18″ Rota Formula Mesh shoes laced up with some Kumho Ecsta SPT Tyres, the car maintains a lightly lowered stance, while remaining stylish & functional for cruising year-round.
Other cosmetic changes include Street Unit’s blackout “Flying M” logos, blackout Side Markers and some JDM styled yellow high beams & fog Lights.
When you pop the hood, some of the goodies found amidst the standards of the MS3 include a Cobb SRI Intake, Cobb Turbo Inlet, and a Turbosmart Hybrid BOV.
As for the junk in the trunk ( where most would expect a couple bags of groceries): a JL 10w7 Sub, JL high output spec.’d box and a JL 500.1/v2 amp keep the beats bumpin’.
