Celica

iM Random Snaps: Romel Tenchavez’s 1977 Toyota Celica

With the summer slowly drawing to a close, there’s one car that comes to mind that didn’t get any exposure this season. This car is very iconic to a few of us in Calgary’s Car Scene. The car I’m talking about is Romel Tenchavez’s 1977 Toyota Celica.

Hopefully next season this car will be up and running again. I’ll make sure of it. 😉

iM @ Toyota/Lexus Meet August 29, 2010

Had a chance to stop by and check out the small Toyota/Lexus Meet at the Chinook Centre Upper Level Parking lot earlier today. Not bad of a turnout considering the rain and cold weather Mother Nature had in store for Calgary.

Because of the rain I didn’t feel like catching a cold so I didn’t take too many pics but here are a few snaps I was able to take. Check ’em out!

Random shot of an illmotion crown decal on a post. LOL!

iM Random Snaps: Punit’s Integra

Just thought I would put up 2 picture’s of the Integra from a shoot we did a few weeks back. This shoot didn’t last to long because my car started to leak oil again. Turned out to be a bad gasket. Good new’s is since that day I haven’t leaked a drop of oil. Anyways here is the shots that Prashant took.

iM: Thank You Speedtech Racing Development

As most of you found out this past weekend, Speedtech Racing Development Calgary closed it’s doors for good on August 21st, 2010.

As sad and depressing as this is for most of us in Calgary’s car community, we want to take this time to give thanks to the car shop that was STRD.

Thank you Speedtech Racing Development for everything you did for the Calgary car scene over the years, you guys will definitely be missed.

PS: After the jump find out what some of us here at ill.motion had to say individually.

JC’s Thoughts//

After seeing everything being taken down on Saturday, I felt like all the memories I had of Speedtech just rolled through my mind. It’s because of Speedtech I was able to meet so many great individuals who shared a common love and enthusiasm for cars. It’s because of this same passion we were able to witness some of the hottest cars in Calgary come out of this shop.

As hard as this is to believe for me there’s so many things I want to say but I’m gonna keep this short. I’ll never forget the countless hours, the friends I’ve made, the laughs, and good times I shared with everyone at Speedtech.

An era is definitely ending, and Speedtech Racing Development will definitely be missed.

Shout out and many thanks to Will, Nick, Jeevs, Jackie, Tien, Rocky, Michael, Paul, Pat, Allan, Terry, Randy and Chanry (for my infamous Tiffany colored Speedtech decals haha) as well as anyone else who worked at Speedtech that I may have missed (I tried to roll call everybody lol).

Thank you for everything you guys could find for my Vitz and my Corolla!

Punit’s Thoughts//

I’ve been buying from Speedtech for a few years but the last year or so is when I really got to know everyone at STRD. The shop will be missed quite a bit from me. I’ve spent countless hours hanging out in the office with Jackie and Will, had Paul to fix my “broken” car numerous times (haha) and just becoming great friends with all of them. Through the shop I got to meet many of my friends today.

Thanks everyone at STRD for everything.

Aldrich’s Thoughts//

I was at Speedtech helping out before they opened, and was there on their opening day, and was also there on Saturday on their final day.

It was very bittersweet. On one hand, I got to see a whole bunch of people that have been associated with Speedtech, and it was nice to see them all in one place. On the other hand, it was the last time that we would all be there inside that building. It was so weird to see the place so empty.

But like everyone else will agree, Speedtech has always been very helpful to me, and I will never forget that, along with all the friends I’ve made because of them.

Thanks for everything over the years guys! Good luck to all the former staff on their future endeavors.

Arif’s Thoughts//

I don’t really know where to begin. All of us who make a small post about STRD will have very similar thoughts, feelings, and attitudes. On the last day as I looked around the shop, looking at the people that had gathered for a final moment in the showroom, and in the back shop area. A thought occurred to me. I realised that because of STRD there was a very close knit group of people that was brought together. Yes we all got know each other under the banner of modded cars…but some for me have become akin to family.

It is NOT just about a shop to pick up your next bling part. It is more and pretty much to me all about the friendships forged like my TE’s in that building. In the years that STRD was around you saw trends come and go, you saw cars come and go…and its really sad to see the shop go…

But a thank you to everyone there, Will, Chowfun, Allan, JDM GVS, Pat, Rocky, Michael, Paul (love the brackets, and am never getting rid of them haha), Chanry, Randy…oh…seems like I am forgetting someone…hmmm…I should check my Honda Tuning Issue to see…was it Jackie??…I never got a shout out so you ain’t getting one…haha…just playin’ homie…and J Law too…

ONE!!

Revwerks

Revwerks Track Day 4

I love track days. Nothing beats watching cars opened up to their full potential, soaking in the sounds of their exhausts as they tear down the straight. Or in the case of one RSX, the scream of it’s supercharger.

There was plenty of nice cars that showed up to this track day including some very fast Corvettes and a rare Lotus Esprit. Didn’t get a chance to get a picture of every car as I was only there for few hours, but still got a few good shots. The next track day will be happening on September 23rd so if you’ve got the time, definitely go check it out!

iM: Beyond.ca Summer Cruise 2010

Here are a bunch of shots from the Beyond.ca Summer Cruise that was last weekend. The drive through the mountains was a blast and all the nice cars made it that much better.

I didn’t get any rolling shots as most of the trip it was only single lane. But here are some shots from the campsite where everyone stopped off for a few hours to hang out and grab a bite to eat.

Driven 2010

iM Random Snaps: JKL’s S2K @ Driven Edmonton

Being very new to editing photos I just had to share this quick snap of Jackie Law’s “Internet Sensation”, his Honda S2000.

This photo was all green and yellow before and after spending almost an hour on editing this pic I’m really happy with how it turned out and thought I’d share it with y’all.

Until next time!

DETO International

Coco’s EVO

Ok so here is the first of the four features from our trip out west. I’ll start it off with these two random snaps from the Agenda Show we attended in Huntington Beach. Chill’n outside was the Crooks & Castles and MATIX flagship vehicles. It’s cool to see how much car culture influences so much that is so un-car related, it’s almost built into their way of life.

Around 3am, while cruising around Huntington we run into Coco and his super clean EVO. I’ve come to learn in the few days i spent in the Newport/Huntington Beach area that they are some of the friendliest/nicest people I’ve ever encountered. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone with a chip on their shoulder or in a bad mood. Everyone was very warm, inviting, and quick to help.

As we spoke to Coco Zurita, he explained he was in the area to compete in X-games 16. I’ve always been a fan of the murdured-out look and as Coco explained that the matte black finish on his EVO isn’t even paint…it’s a wrap! The whole car… He opened the door to revile the original white color that still remained in the jam of the door(not pictured).

I wanna apologize for the blurry shots taken in such low light, but i felt like it was a perfect opportunity to bring you car culture in it’s purest form. Oh, and as i should mention, pointed out by Coco, check out his sponsor: Vivid Racing.

Here’s a shot of Coco doing what he does(Via Vivid Racing):

more to come…
