iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet – September…

The month of September is upon us, which pretty much signals the end of the summer, the start of fall, and impending coming of a automotive enthusiasts least favorite season: winter. You can feel it getting colder and colder here in the evening and night, but that still will not stop a bunch of people from showing up to the weekly meets. Grabbed a few pictures while we were at it, please excuse some of the quality, it was getting quite dark very quickly.

Enjoy, and see you next week!

And then there is this: a Honda S2000 with an Amuse wide body kit. I first saw it at night a few days ago, and words cannot do justice to how well this car looks. The owner has been without this car all summer while it was being completed, and gets it back with a little bit of time left to enjoy it, so I had to post a few pictures of it.

This past weekend we attended the 2nd Annual Luxury / Exotic Cruise For a Cause set up by local realtor Jordan Lotoski. About 30 cars came out and raised nearly $2500 for the Kelm family who has 3 children all who are affected by Fragile X Syndrome. After a quick meet in the morning at Distinctive Collection the cruise began, and as you can imagine with this group of cars it turned lots of heads as we cruised out to Banff Springs Hotel for brunch. This was a great event to take part in and thanks to everyone efforts in organizing it, can’t wait for next year.

iM Event Coverage: WaterWerks – On The Green

Waterwerks has always been one of the main shows I choose to book off every year. This year the show went a different route from previous years which was located in a baseball stadium parking lot near Tacoma WA. For 2012 the organizers decided to host two events, one in North Bend WA located on a beautiful 230 acre polo field while the other on the California coast line. Usually this event features cars from all over the PNW and California. The two events this year had separated the crowds to mainly PNW cars at this venue. It was great to see how many local cars from the Vancouver scene showed up while many won awards. It was also nice to see what the rest of the PNW had to offer.

Tyler, a Vancouver local won best interior with his VR6 Corrado

The seats out of a Porsche GT3 set off Tylers interior nicely.

Mikes 1.8t swapped Rabbit won best engine bay.

iM Feature: The Calagui Brothers

All in the family.

Without a doubt, there is nothing that will ever be stronger than the bond between members within a family. This is especially true when it comes to loyalty amongst siblings. Even over time as siblings grow apart and go about their separate ways in life, the level of respect and trust that is created by brothers and sisters will simply never be broken.

Staying true to the sibling tradition are Allan and Raymon Calagui. Being exposed to everything and anything car related since they were young, both Allan and Ray were always on the same page when it came to building a project car; Form and Function. Neither Form nor Function is compromised when it came to any of the Calagui Brothers’ projects. Because of this “all out” attitude that the Calagui’s possess, any of the builds created by Allan or Ray have always been known to have a timeless and classic touch to them.

Keeping it real with the family state of mind, Ray and Allan looked to the BMW family with their latest projects. Allan, with a 2008 BMW 335i Sedan and Ray, with a 2011 BMW 335xi Coupe. With both cars carrying incredible performance out of the box, it’s no wonder the Calagui brothers chose these BMWs as their platforms, both filled with tons of potential.

Performance playing a major factor on both vehicles, Allan unleashes his 335i Sedan with a Stage 3 tune and a methanol injection kit. Add a full Active Autowerkes exhaust and AR Design 3″ catless downpipes and this is one Sedan that maintains a classy exterior while it leaves others in the dust, if need be.

Ray looks to none other than BMW Performance (Exhaust) and an AR Design 4″ catless down pipe to get his 335xi Coupe intimidating any stock M3 that pulls up next to it. Complete with a BMS N55 Stage 2 tune and Methanol Injection Kit mounted in the trunk, this is definitely one 335xi Coupe that will give any M3 a run for it’s money.

Exterior wise, both vehicles maintain signature BMW aesthetics with a few BMW Performance add-ons giving each vehicle a little more whip appeal to anyone who lays their eyes upon the Coupe or the Sedan.

What arguably makes this 335i Sedan and 335xi Coupe stand out from other BMWs on the road, is the stance and wheel game showcased on both vehicles. Allan’s Sedan rocks an uber classy set of Work Euroline XRs, while Ray’s Coupe slays with a custom made set of Work’s timeless wheel, a gold set of VS-XXs.

With both vehicles participating in the stance game, while at the same time putting down plenty of power, anyone who ever thought that form and function could never be part of the same family, can re-think the whole process. Just have a look at the Calagui Brothers’ BMWs, and you’ll see why.

iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet – May…

Another car season in full swing can only mean one thing:  the return of the 403 Honda/Beyond.ca weekly Wednesday meets!  Quite a diverse bunch of cars showed up, and nice to see what was new with all the rides, and new rides in general.  Didn’t get that many pictures, but as it starts to get busier every week, we will try to get more and more photos and keep things diverse.

If you feel like attending, these are held every Wednesday if the weather is decent at the top rear parkade of Chinook Centre/Mall.

Enjoy for now!

BIG FOIG!!!

So call me maybe!

iM Feature: Jason’s "TRAKRAT" BMW M3

As some of you may have noticed, a recurring debate of “doing it right” versus “doing it wrong” has been a very heated topic amongst car enthusiasts as of late, especially on the internet. These days, it seems as though the influence of peers on forums, blogs and various social media outlets have affected the way cars are modified by their owners. Such an impact has brought both positive and negative aspects to this present day automotive lifestyle.

There are however a few out there who break this mold and do something based entirely on their own discretion, without the influence of peers on the web. A perfect example of this select few is Jason Close, and his Supercharged BMW M3. Although Jason’s M3 is posted online, it doesn’t take away from the fact that it remained his build, as his peers took a seat and enjoyed the show.

Jason, like many of us in the beginning, started off with basic mods like an exhaust (with cat deletes), lowering springs and a new set of rollers for the summer. What differs Jason from other BMW M owners is he spent a lot of his time on the track during the summer, gaining a better feel for the car and better knowledge of what needed to be modified to perform better on the road course.

Jason’s biggest goal for his E90 was without a doubt to get the car going faster on the track. Operation complete with a Supercharger system from ESS Tuning. Along with the intercooled supercharger install, Jason also had a few more goodies underway for his “TRAKRAT”. Performance Friction PFC-01 Race Pads were added to bring the beast to a sudden halt if need be. The TRAKRAT’s suspension was also upgraded to KW Clubsport Coilovers and his wheels and tires were upgraded to Diamond Black BBS LM-Rs wrapped in Yokohama Advan AD08 tires, giving the TRAKRAT some “form” with that “function”.

Because the BMW M3 is notorious for it’s weight, Jason decided it was time to put his E90 on an Aero diet, with a legit Carbon roof and Carbon CSL style trunk via Vorsteiner. In addition, Jason updated the taillights courtesy of LCI. If the Aero additions and the new taillights weren’t enough to aesthetically change the appearance of his TRAKRAT, his M3 also underwent a refreshed exterior paint job.

With a few minor tweaks here and there, this is how the BMW M3 TRAKRAT currently sits. And with that, it’s safe to say that this was all done without the influence of others on the internet, but more so by the influence of Jason himself, and the patience he had to get this M3 to perform and look how you see it today.

In a current state where the automotive society is on one side of the fence or the other, why not break that barrier and do something based entirely on your own decisions? …Are one’s opinions on the internet really going to make or break your plans? What are you waiting for? Release your inner “TRAKRAT”.

iM Highlight: Reggie’s 2007 BMW E92 328xi

Here is another Euro that has been in the works for some time. Some of you may remember Reggie’s Integra Feature from last year and wonder what he drove when that was torn apart. Well this BMW is the car that he used and as you can see there was no messing around here either.

Outfitted all around with an AC Schnitzer kit and misc. pieces to match the aggressiveness, Reggie pulled off what you see here.

Having owned the car since 2007 it has seen it’s ups and downs and a fair share of bumps and bruises but with a keen eye and attention to detail, Reggie has kept it clean with simplicity. And clearly we aren’t the only ones that thought so, Reggie and his BMW won best Euro at DTP Edmonton in 2008, Best in Class at World of Wheels, 2nd Best in DTP Calgary in 2009, and Best in Class at Euroquake. With a rap sheet like that it’s no wonder keep striving to bring out more and more with each build!

iM Event Coverage: GarageBox Track Day 4 – September…

With the season nearing the end, and with the impending coming of cooler weather, we were happy to have such an awesome warm day for the final GarageBox Track Day of the year and possible last at Race City. It was quite a busy day with a lot of cars out on the track, including a few owned/driven by our very own team members.

I tried to get everything that I could, but a bunch of pics didn’t turn out unfortunately, but all of them can be found here: flickr link

A special thanks goes out to Paul and the crew at GarageBox for putting on another awesome track day. Here’s hoping that there can be more!

iM Highlight: Josh Sivadas’s E46 M3 Cabriolet

The E46 M3.

Without a doubt one of the most popular platforms amongst European tuners. First introduced to the scene in 2000, the E46 M3 was offered in coupe and convertible models, featured the beastly (International Engine of the Year at the time) M-tuned 3.2L S54 engine, SMG transmission, sport suspension, and a highly aggressive exterior.

It’s no wonder that Josh Sivadas looked to the M3, as his latest project car. But what more could Josh do to an already impressive package from BMW? Well, in Josh’s case, “Swag” would be the perfect word to describe his E46 M3 Cabriolet.

Already equipped with sporty suspension from the factory, Josh aimed to get this M3 Cab stanced proper with a set of KW V2 Coilovers. And to make his M3 Cab stand out even more from the crowd, How about an agressively staggered set of black Volk TE-37s for good measure? No messing around here.

To give the M3 a little more flow, Josh added an AFE Intake system and Custom Exhaust set-up with rasp eliminator.

“All black everything” is another phrase that just works when it comes to talking about Josh’s M3. Featuring a Vorsteiner CF Single-Sided GTR Hood, Vorsteiner CF Rear Diffuser and a custom CF front lip, any Chrome that was on this M3 is completely blacked out inside and out, perfectly complimenting the Vorsteiner goodies.

Subtlety and attention to detail can go a long way. Josh definitely had the right frame of mind when it came to building his E46 M3 Cab project. Whether he’s cruising with the top down or hardtop on, you better believe Josh’s M3 has it’s swag on and in full effect.
