iM Highlight: The Mighty Duc

My buddy Mike has been in this car game for years. When I met him about 10+ years ago, he was rolling hard in a green 4 door Integra, one of the cleanest in the city. He’s the guy that turned me on to this whole ‘JDM’ cleanliness game.

Fast forward to a few years later. Integra is sold, he goes through a few cars, but never really sticks to them. Now he’s back into a Honda, an all black S2000 that I took a few random snaps of a few months ago. His focus though, has been turned back onto bikes. Everything that I know about bikes (which isn’t much, but its better than nothing) was learned from him. He’s got a few of them on the go right now, including a Ducati 749, and a Honda RC51 SP2 that both see active track duty.

But recently he added one rare beast to his stable, which I saw with my own eyes for the first time on the weekend. He invited me down to the shop where his bikes are stored to come take a look and hang out.

And there she was, the lady in red, staring down the other bikes.

The new addition to the family was a 2005 Ducati 999R. Very limited in its production, was created and sold to the public as a homologation limited edition model to be able to compete in the AMA Superbike series. Although Ducati never released production numbers, its believed that only 500 of these were made in 2005 with less than that going on sale to the general public.

At first glance, it looks just like the yellow 749 sitting near it. But as I looked closer, the differences became obvious. Carbon fibre everywhere. Fairings, fenders, other miscellaneous pieces, all perfectly weaved. If you look closely at the fairing, you’ll notice the ‘Ducati 999R’ emblem isn’t paint or a decal. They are just gaps in the paint to show you whats underneath. Other things such as the Brembo mono block brake calipers and Ohlins suspension with reservoir were quite obvious, but a few others were pointed out to me such as the fact that the wheels were forged, and the front headlight surround setup and valve covers are magnesium to minimize weight.

Here are a few shots of Mike’s other bikes:

Too bad the weather is not suitable at all for bikes, because I’d love to have shot these outside rolling instead of being stuck in a shop. Hopefully, I’ll be able to do that when the weather gets nicer, but these will have to do for now. Hope you enjoyed, and the summer needs to get here QUICK!

iM: Random Pics

Lately, a lot of cars have been popping up that are just so dope that either or peeps have found and posted on our facebook wall or emailed us and why wouldn’t we post them?
This Si owned by Josue and pics taken by KameraBoy from southernfresh.com is too dope. Thanks Josue for rocking our decal and KameraBoy for taking some fresh pics.

iM on Vacation: Hello From The Philippines!

As some of you may know, and for others that don’t, I’m currently spending my Christmas/New Years break in the Philippines. Been here since the 20th of December, and won’t be back home until January 12th. Its been a great trip so far, spending time with family I’ve never met, seeing the places where my parents grew up, and at the end of it all, appreciating how lucky I am to live where I live, and learning to not take what I have in everyday life for granted.

An older Evo:

A school bus??? Sweet!:

That being said, I never forgot about you guys. The car scene here is way different than in Canada, traffic is nuts here! The lines on the roads are just suggestions, a two lane highway turns into a 3/4 lane highway. In traffic, if there is a spot on the road for a vehicle, there will be one there.

Anyways, here are some random snaps of different interesting vehicles that I’ve seen so far, ranging from public transportation, nicely done cars, to vehicles that I don’t see on a normal basis.

There were all sorts of mini vans that weren’t that mini. These look like they seat a minimum of 9 people, but are very stylish compared to the vans in North America. This one is a Hyundai Stariex:

This is a Jeepney. It is a common form of public transportation in the bigger cities:

A slightly modified newer Legacy wagon. How come they look much better here?

A new Ford Fiesta S. We will probably get the watered down version in North America:

Toyota Ardeo Vista. Another car I’d like to see in North America:

A clean Fit/Jazz on Volk Gram Lights:

A nice Jeep belonging to a friend of the family:

Thats all for now. Hope you enjoyed it so far. I’ll leave you with this pic… more on it soon:

iM Random Snaps: Winter Beater Beating Winter

Steve Chan had been bugging me for a while to test fit the CCW’s on his 87 Accord LX. His car isn’t just a normal winter car, he drives slammed. Since we had nothing better to do on Boxing Day, I called him and a few other homies over to do it. After rolling fenders and lunch we finally got the wheels on the car. The specs on the wheels are 16 x 8.5 +15. Anyways enjoy the pictures, we had a ton of fun doing it.

RWD Conversion? Nah just rubbing rubber.

No such thing as too low. Could always go lower.

iM Feature: Jamie Fry’s S2000

For anyone that was paying close attention to the Racecity track day coverage throughout this past summer you may have noticed a very brightly colored, in your face, aggressive drop top that attended virtually every single event. That would be Jamie Fry in his ‘always top down’ J’s equipped S2000. Jamie never misses an opportunity to put all his expensive race ready parts to the test at the track. Damn rights!

Jamie also enjoys rolling around the city snapping dozens of necks daily as he drives this car every single day. To say this car grabs attention would be an understatement. I wouldn’t doubt that it’s caused an accident or two from onlookers haha.

As noted below in the mod list Jamie (as well as Jason Divina who was the previous owner of this car) both chose to entrust J’s Racing with the majority of the modifications for the engine as well as exterior. In particular the uber rare J’s version 1 lip and canards, both of which have seen extensive damage multiple times from pylons, steep curb cuts or small children playing in the chicane. Make no mistake, Jamie is no hard parker.

Rolling on freshly powdercoated Volk Racing CE28n’s the white and yellow color combo pop like crazy!

iM All Over The World: Nicolas Rouillon’s 2004 Honda…

Since posting Luis Alva’s Mitsubishi Mirage we’ve been receiving a lot of e-mails from fans outside of Canada who are looking to get featured on our site. If you guys are from outside of Calgary and want to get featured be sure to send us some high-res pics of your whip and we will definitely go from there. Thank you all for the continuous support and love! We’re doing our best to show you guys how thankful we are by giving that same support and love back! Keep rockin’ with us!

Here we have a submission from Nicolas Rouillon of Paris, France with a very fresh Honda S2000. Only 25 years young, it looks as though Nicolas has the right frame of mind on what an S2K should look like. With notable mods such as the Tein Mono Flex Coilover Kit, A Greddy Ti-C Exhaust and an 18″ Work Meister S1 wheel set up, there’s no disagreeing on Nicolas’s passion for this S2000 of his.

For those wondering the ways of form and function affected those in Europe, look no further than Nicolas’s 2004 Phase-II Honda S2000:

iM: Punit’s Integra – Take One

We went out a few weeks back and I borrowed Prashant’s 5D to record a short movie. My first take at it, but I think it turned out alright. I still got a lot of practicing to do with iMovie and such, but enjoy! Hit the HD button to watch it in High Def!

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Chinook Meet – Nov. 3,…

Well, it looks like this may be the last one of this season, its supposed to get cold here by Monday with snow, so if the hardcores are up to it, we will hold them downstairs. If not, you won’t see any meet pictures until next season when it warms up again. Was busier this week than last because it was a bit nicer out, so the turnout was better.

Hopefully the winter meets still continue, and I can get more pics for you guys. If not, it was fun, thanks to everyone for coming out, and hope to see everyone again next season!
