iM Random Snaps: All in a days work

The end of summer has come around leaving us with fond memories of flip flops, popsicles, and short skirts 😛 As fall approaches I figured id get a few guys together for a bunch of photos before the cars get put away for the winter. I grabbed my camera and gear and our first stop leads us to this Suzuka Blue S2000, mildly modified to specific regulations for competitive racing. Then we head out into the night with a new Audi S4 and a couple of Japanese favorites! We even stopped by the local car meet for a bit of eye candy!

iM Highlight: Varty Brother’s Civic & Del Sol

Trying to expand our coverage of the car scene in Western Canada, the illmotion crew tries to get around to cities that are close by to check out what’s new in the car scene. This is how we first met the Varty brothers. After multiple trips up to Edmonton and the two of them appearing at shows in Calgary, we always seemed to run in to them snapping pictures and recording video, so right away we had similar interests.

Soon after meeting Isaac and his brother Daniel, they came down to Calgary and put together an amazing video of our cars. Be sure to check it out at https://vimeo.com/isaacvarty

Here are some photos of the Varty brothers Honda’s!

iM Feature: Trung’s 2004 Honda S2000

Sometimes a project car takes a few different directions before you truly get it where you want it to be, lots of guys will either give up and sell mid way through or simply loose interest in the build they once were so passionate about. Trung however, has a total of 6 years into this project and needless to say, it’s paid off! A quick glance will have you saying to yourself “was that an S2000?”, you realize it is and the appreciation for what has gone into the car becomes astounding. You may have caught one part that stood out to you as it passes you in traffic, or simply the sound is all that caught your attention, either way, it’s easy to tell a lot of time, thought and effort have gone into this car as it truly is a one of a kind S2000.

Majority of the work done on the car was done by Midtown Auto Imports including a fresh coat of Berlina black paint early this year to compliment the “Lord Vader” theme. It’s no garage queen either, this S2000 sees the streets almost every day in the summer and as many track days and time attacks as Trung can make it out too. With such an aggressive looking exterior it’s mandatory to have something under the hood and inside the car to back it all up, have a peek for yourself.

iM Feature: Arif’s Honda Civic Hatch

If you’ve been a part of the automotive community for a while, there’s no denying that you’ve seen builds come and go. While we can certainly appreciate the pursuit to move on to bigger, better and faster things, we also cannot forget about the “timeless”, if you will, builds that stay in tune and keep up with the times of what’s classic, current, and of course what’s next. A term that immediately comes to mind when we talk about staying in tune and lasting in the scene is consistency. When it comes to consistency, there’s a certain Honda Civic EK Hatch that we can’t help but recognize, and it’s owned by Beyond.Ca’s forum resident “E-Mack”, Arif Jina. If you haven’t had a chance to meet her yet, allow us to introduce (or re-introduce for those who know the build), “Hollie”…

The car is unmistakable. A track ready, Championship White EK sitting on Volk’s forever classic TE-37 wheel, a Seeker V2 rear spoiler, a Civic Type-R radiator grille, VIS CF hood and hatch, DiNoc CF wrapped roof and a modified to fit Spoon rear diffuser are just a few of the exterior pieces that make Arif’s EK stand out from the rest. The most undeniable stand out exterior feature on Arif’s EK is the roll call that you’ll find on the rear window, which is a true testament and tribute to automotive culture over the past few years since Arif has owned the car.

To compliment that track ready exterior, Arif keeps things flowing in the rear gutted and Cusco-caged cockpit of his EK with a little JDM flavor such as Civic Type-R door panels, a JDM Integra Type-R cluster, a Recaro Profi XL found on the driver’s seat and an Integra Type-R Recaro found on passenger seat. Inside Arif’s EK Hatch you will also find a few items courtesy of Sparco such as the 215 Steering Wheel and Pedals.

Keeping Arif’s beloved “Hollie” planted to ground alongside the Cusco Roll Cage are a set of HSD Coilovers, Spoon Front Strut Brace, EM Racing rear strut and trunk braces, Megan C-Pillar and front “H” Braces, an ASR Rear Sub Frame brace and an 24mm ASR Rear Sway Bar. With an incredible arsenal of parts found throughout all departments of this EK Hatch, Arif sought after a JDM Honda DOHC F20B motor paired with an H22 Tranny and Exedy Stage 2 Clutch to play the important role of “Hollie’s” heart and soul. Uberdata Engine Management, a Mugen Header, an AEM Short Ram Intake, and an APEX’i N1 Catback Exhaust were also implemented for a little added performance.

Having owned “Hollie” for a little over 8 years, This EK has seen and been through it all. With a mix of everything from USDM to JDM flavor, there’s no denying the timeless appeal that “Hollie” brings to the table. Throughout all of it’s wheel phases, aero phases, body panel updates, paint resprays, and the countless hours not only in the garage or on the track, but at several car shows as well, it’s only right that we recognize and appreciate the consistency that Arif’s EK Hatch undeniably has achieved over time.

iM Highlight: Aldo’s Honda S2000

When you acquire a new car and start a new project, there a lot of things people take into consideration before taking that dive into something new. Aftermarket support, performance and initial appearance/styling of the vehicle are just some of the things that people take into account before committing to the next “money pit”. After considering all the factors that are involved in acquiring a new project car, our good friend Aldo decided it was time to depart from Euro tuning and hop on the Honda wagon with this Grand Prix White AP1 Honda S2000.

Definitely still a project car in the making, we decided to take a few snaps of Aldo’s S2000 before it goes through more modifications over the course of the next few years. As long as Aldo does more modding to his car and a little less dancing while driving in his car (HAHA), we can’t wait to see what’s to come of this AP1! For now though, have a look of Aldo’s S2K in it’s premier stages.

iM Feature: Zeeshan’s Honda Civic Hatch

Growing up as a kid whether you are a car enthusiast or not, there was always that one car that we would only dream of owning when we grow up. Typically the type of cars we would dream of owning as children would be that of the highest performance and almost always something from the exotic class. For Zeeshan, the car of his dreams was certainly not in the form of a high performance exotic, but in the form of a hatchback made by automaker, Honda Motor Company of Japan.

Although not available to the public in North America at the time, Zeeshan made his dreams a reality as he decided to build the car of his dreams, an EK9 Honda Civic Type-R.

As soon as Zeeshan acquired a Civic Hatch, he knew exactly what route he wanted to go take to make it the EK that he envisioned in his dreams. With inspiration from JDM modifying, the direction that his EK was going to go in was that of a simple, clean, subtle yet aggressive approach. Inside and out, you will find nothing but pieces from the JDM EK9 Civic Type-R.

The main focus of Zeeshan’s EK however, is found under the hood. Originally sporting a built B16B from an EK9, Zeeshan felt that there just wasn’t enough power and felt that his EK needed a little more of a push. To give him that push, Zeeshan implemented a Jackson Racing Supercharger to give the B16 a little more pep. Unfortunately, the Jackson Racing Supercharger gave Zeeshan some engine troubles and caused two of his intake valves to bend. Instead of rebuilding the B16 however, Zeeshan decided to do something different for his EK and began working on a Frankenstein K20/K24 motor. Once Zeeshan got the Frankenstein motor swap running, he made an impressive 221whp during a dyno run. With the light chassis of the EK and a hybrid K20/K24 engine making good power paired with a DC5 ITR transmission, Zeeshan’s vision of building the EK of his dreams, became a reality.

Fast forward to today and as we all know, all good things do eventually come to an end. Because of the K24 being a much taller block, it’s steel oil pan hanging really low, and the city of Calgary known for having some of the worst roads in Canada, the beating the oil pan took caused blockage to the pick up, and resulted in a spun rod. As for the future of this EK? A good friend of Zeeshan’s now owns it, currently running with a B-Series motor.

On the brighter side of things however, Zeeshan certainly has not shied away from car modding and even has plans of a completely different build in the works. With dreams becoming a reality from this build, there is no doubt in our minds that Zeeshan’s next project will be just as formidable, if not more than his EK. For now though, let’s take “one last look” if you will, at Zeeshan’s Honda Civic Hatchback…

iM Event Coverage: Tokyo Auto Salon Part 3 ‘Honda…

Going to concentrate today’s pictures on the Hondas of the Tokyo Auto Salon. We have several different interpretations of the new Honda Fit, Honda’s new NSX-GT, Spoon Sports and their wacky ‘open air’ hardtop cover and the Top Fuel time attack S2k among the usual Honda show participants.

As we posted on our Facebook page last night please post up a comment if you really want to see anything specific from the show and we’ll do our best to make it happen.

iM: The Re-Up 2013 (Part 2)

Going to keep things rolling with Part 2 of our Re-Up 2013 series…

Without a doubt one of the most influential features we’ve done here on illmotion come from the crew over at PoorForm. To back up that last sentence two members from illmotion even went as far as switching up their projects and going in the direction of VIP/Lexus modding. Definitely stay tuned for more from PoorForm later on this year!

iM Highlight: Poorform Lexus LSs

Another first on illmotion comes from Devon Mori and a dual feature of his Honda Civic EG6 and Honda CBR600RR. With both of Devon’s means of transportation painted the same color, seeing both his car and bike in motion for the rolling shot was definitely an awesome moment!

iM Feature: Devon Mori’s 1992 Honda Civic EG6 & 2006 Honda CBR600RR

illmotion’s own Prashant Topiwala surprised most of us this year when he sold this car, a 2010 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. While most of us can’t wait to see what Prashant has in store for next season, we’re pretty sure Prashant will regret getting rid of this once he looks at pictures from this feature again. Let’s take a moment to remember Prashant’s C63 AMG, shall we?

iM Highlight: Prashant Topiwala’s 2010 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

One of the very first “official” shoots of the season was Andy’s Mint Green Nissan Skyline GT-R R32. We had the pleasure of being able to shoot this car earlier on in the year as this car went on to become one of the biggest internet sensations of 2013. Doing his own thing and not paying attention to the negativity of others definitely got everyone talking about Andy and his GT-R.

Photographer Taylor Smith blessed us once again last year with another clean Euro in the form of Lani’s MK4 Jetta VR6. Rocking the super rare original Votex kit from Volkswagen and sitting on BBS CH Wheels, let’s revisit Lani’s immaculate MK4 Jetta.
