iM Feature: Brad Atkins’ EM1

While we were out shooting Aubrey’s car, Brad tagged along and I decided to shoot his car as well. I’ve never shot it, so it’s nice to have something new to shoot. He’s got a new setup for 2010, so look forward to more shoots of his EM1 this summer πŸ˜€

Until next time…

iM: When Dreams Become Nightmares…

So, maybe I made the title slightly over dramatic. But allow me to explain. I remember reading some Japanese Tuner Magazine when I was just getting into wanting to mod cars. And I saw this wheel. I had NO idea what it was but i knew that one day I would have to have it.

The wheel…The Volk TE37. I mean what a classic wheel…six spoke design, great for brake cooling, looks amazing on any car, super light, forged, and baller…haha…That, my friends was the dream. Now comes the nightmare. No, I haven’t curbed them, or damaged them…But, I will let the pictures do the talking….

With Driven 2010 fast approaching the ill.motion crew are busy and hard at work to make sure our cars are ready for the show. Now Jason being the hater that he is, shot my car earlier today and well commented on the lack of my wiping down and cleaning my wheels before the shoot. Anyhow, that is what I decided to do this evening and folks…if you have just eaten come back and look at this post later…haha…

Only because my words do not even begin to express the nastiness that has built up on my wheels, from both regular driving, track days, my general laziness AND a broken axle boot that I discovered today…FML…haha…onto the pictures…

After!

iM: EK x FG Photoshoot

After months and months of waiting, I finally get my hands on the Canon 135L f2.0 – one of my most sought after lenses and I was itching to go for a shoot. Call up Arif and out we go to one of the sickest locations ever – no cars, no traffic, no people… just straight new road all around.
Well enough of the chatter, here are the first pics to come from my baby πŸ˜€

Check that bokeh – for you photography nerds πŸ˜› haha

Had to get some ass shots.. sorry for the dirty car.

As always, you can visit my photostream for the high res photos

New Photographer: Matthew To

So this is my first post for the ill.motion family. My name is Matt and I have a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT. The car has some work done, but is mainly a work in progress still. Cars have always been a huge passion of mine and have been getting more and more into the Calgary tuner scene. I look forward to providing all the readers with more of the sickest cars in Southern Alberta that ill.motion is known for!

Here’s a sample of my recent work:

iM: Random Snaps

The rain yesterday was a pretty nice change from the snow that we’ve been having. Ironic because we just went through the snowfall warning of 10-20cm overnight. Calgary weather is so messed up.
Anyways, I decided to do a quick rain shoot with any lots that were nearby because I got kind of bored.

On another note, Driven is only 2 weeks away!! oh em gee

No shots of the front cause it’s not ready yet πŸ˜€ haha

iM: EP3 Interior Pt. 2

Finally got motivated to finish the damn cage this weekend….. first let me highly recommend that anyone thinking of installing a cage to strongly consider not keeping a full interior haha. Anyways here it is in all it’s glory.

The cage came black and I was just gonna keep it that way but figured I’d change it up a bit. Talked to the Screamin’ boys and they recommended Calgary Powdercoating for a simple white paint job. Just over a week later this was the result. Not only were they fast but they were cheap! $100 to sandblast, prep and powder the entire cage.

Next step was removing the entire rear interior…. pain in the ass haha. There must be 300 plastic clips holding all this shit together.

Drilling time. No turning back now haha.

Dremelling the panels.

Test fit attempt #1 of probably a dozen tries haha. Gotta get it perfect.

So then once everything was tightened down (to make sure it all fit) we had to pull it all back out to seal the plates.

Done…. now the jigsaw puzzle putting the interior back in with all the bars in the way. Glad it’s not a 6 point cage, would have been impossible haha.

Every things back in when I realize the holes I spent hours trimming perfectly are covered by the seat belts. Oh well.

Done! So happy with the outcome.

iM: Arif’s EK gets Spooned

Remember the spoon crane? Here’s the followup

Spent the whole day at Speedtech on Saturday getting Arif’s Spoon diffuser installed on his EK (AKA Hollie). After lots of “ohhs” and “ahhs” and cringing from cutting so much of the diffuser off, it was complete. There aren’t too many EK’s running the Spoon S-tai diffuser, and in order for that to happen, you gotta be willing to push the envelope.
With the right idea and the right people, that’s how it’s done. Paul at STRD is infamous at being able to fab up just about anything when we need it.

Check the process!
Marking the cuts

Oh god…

Real gangstas dun play

Mock up

All done!

“What are those? 16×3 +85?”

Don’t have the completely finished pics cause I had to leave before they got done. We’ll do a shoot soon!

iM: Test Fit Wheel’s

So Prashant and I went to get his car out of storage. My wheels have been mounted and ready to go. So since the wheel’s where at his house, I thought we should try throw them onto his civic and see how they sit. Ill let the picture’s explain the kind of trouble im in. The car was sitting on top of the wheel’s and we couldn’t get it all the way down.

Time to get a fender roller and get to work on the Integra.

Enjoy.

iM: Upcoming Feature

I was going through some shots that I had forgotten about in the past and I remembered a few weeks ago I stopped by Terence’s house to check out his S2k cause he had just finished slapping on all his things and was finally ready to drive. We also slapped on his J’s hood quickly and I took some quick snaps at his new bachelor pad. We’ll be going out with Terence soon to do a proper shoot with some better shots of all his new goodies.
Until then, check out some teaser shots.
