iM Event Coverage: Driven 2013 Calgary (Part 1)

To “officially” kick start the 2013 season, Driven made it’s way to the Olympic Oval in Calgary. A little earlier than the previous year, this certainly did not stop everybody from getting their cars ready, some even just MINUTES before the end of roll-in and set up. With over 250 cars coming together under one roof, Driven continues to get better every year as owners/enthusiasts just know that it is the perfect opportunity to showcase what he/she has been hiding over the course of the winter. With that, the quality factor continues to improve as well as participants step it up and come correct every year.

Congratulations to all those who were awarded this year including Devon Mori (RHD EG6), Noel Eggers (S14), Randy Chau (Honda S600), Duncan Yu (Sleeper Civic), Philip Tan (AE86), Derrek Poyntz (Best Engine Dress Up – Integra) and Tommy Daraseng (E92 M3) who represented with illmotion.

We here at illmotion would also like to take this time to thank the beautiful Melyssa Grace for kicking it with us. It was definitely an honor to have you in our booth and we really hope you enjoyed the show as much we did!

Also a big shout out to our own Aldrich Evangelista for providing the beats and DJing for almost 8 hours straight! Amazing work Rich!

Finally, we would like to thank all of you because in all actuality, there would be no “Driven” without the support of you guys as we encourage each other, and practically push each other to get our cars ready to roll for shows like this. Thank you guys for making Driven 2013 a success yet again for our scene! It was definitely awesome seeing some familiar faces and meeting new ones, which is exactly what it’s all about; and what a perfect way to re-introduce the season we call Summer!

Moving on, we do have intense coverage of Driven which will be separated into parts over the next few days, so let’s kick things off with Part 1 of our iM Event Coverage: Driven 2013 Calgary…

Enjoy!

iM Highlight

iM Highlight: Andy Huynh’s Nissan Skyline GT-R R32

As lucky as we are here in Canada to have the opportunity to bring in some of the most sought after vehicles from Japan and register them as a regular means of transportation, we have to admit that it is in fact a rare sight to see some of these right hand drive vehicles being driven throughout the seasons. And for the ones that we do see being driven every day of the year, well, they usually are not in the greatest condition by the time summer rolls around. To steer away from all of that though, there are some RHD owners out there who go the extra mile to maintain their vehicles and keep them running and looking proper no matter what the weather condition. One person who comes to mind when it comes to keeping it fresh is Andy Huynh and his “Porsche Mint Green” Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R.

Andy’s goal was quite simple, build a daily driven Skyline GT-R R32 that expresses his individuality and ultimately captures the attention of anyone who lays their eyes upon it. While the engine and interior of this GT-R R32 mostly remain untouched and true to the way Nissan would want it to be, the beauty of Andy’s build is definitely the fact that most of the work was performed by Andy himself, including the bodywork and paint job.

The look of Andy’s GT-R is unmistakeable, a Porsche Mint Green paint job sitting super low on vibrant white Varrstoen wheels, accessorized with a custom fitted Yakima roof rack and a roof box. While some may wonder why this particular Skyline has a roof rack/roof box combo, Andy finds it quite practical as he carries two spare wheels in case of an emergency (complete with a floor jack loaded in the trunk).

Aside from the fact that he did his own paint job, what makes Andy’s GT-R R32 so admirable is the raw simplicity of it. With a unique color combination and set up done to a platform that is usually seen in the high performance sports segment, Andy switches things up and does it his way, with no regrets whatsoever. By maintaining his RHD GT-R through the winter/summer seasons and adding his own simple yet effective style to it, we gotta hand it to Andy for giving the term “Daily Driver” a new meaning…

Edmonton

iM Event Coverage: 780 Tuners Season Opener

May 4th, 2013 was 780Tuners’ Season Opener in Edmonton Alberta. Cars and bikes of all makes, models, and years were brought to the United Cycle parking lot as a way to celebrate the start of summer and show off what had been done over the winter months. Our good friend Bill of the UCCC made the trip up to participate, see some friends in our neighboring city, and of course check out the other vehicles on display!

A raffle was held and merchandise was available to purchase, so as to raise money for the Edmonton Humane Society. By the end of it all it was the largest turnout ever and over $4200 was raised!

With hundreds and hundreds of vehicles present it was hard to get a shot of every single one, but here is an assortment of those that were there. As you can see there was something for everyone.

Enjoy!

iM Event Coverage: 2013 VW Close To Home Show…

May 5th, 2013 marked the 2013 Volkswagen Close To Home Show & Shine hosted by CLUB VEE DUB at Calgary’s Northeast Volkswagen Dealer, Fifth Avenue Auto Haus. With the weather being more than stellar for Volkswagen owners and enthusiasts to show off their builds, the turn out was quite impressive as new and classic Volkswagens filled the Fifth Avenue Auto Haus lot throughout the day. The Close to Home Show & Shine had something for everyone as music, contests, food etc. was on hand to keep participants and spectators busy.

A few of us from the crew managed to grab a few quick snaps as we were only able to stay for a short period of time, so here’s a look at what we managed to cover when we were there…

iM Random Snaps: Zero Limit BBQ

Now that the summer temps have finally arrived most of the crew got together this past weekend for a small BBQ at Jackie’s new shop, Zero Limit. Some of us hadn’t been to the shop yet so it was cool to finally be able to check it out in person. Shop has tons of space and lots of new equipment, he’s got a pretty sweet setup going for himself. I’m sure you’ll be seeing lots more hanging out at the shop in the future. Anyways onto some pics!

The boss man parked front and center looking as good as ever.

iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet – April…

It was a gorgeous night out for the last 403 Honda/Beyond.ca at Chinook, and that meant a really awesome turnout, the best turnout we’ve seen all season. Hopefully the meets stay as busy as they have been, if not busier!

iM Random Snaps: Dinner & Chill

When we received word from our buddy Galen Wan that he was going to be in town, we knew we had to get the crew together for dinner and a quick meet. After a delicous Alberta beef meal at Vintage Chophouse (which was amazing BTW) we rolled over to Village Ice Cream for some desert. Hidden at the end of 10th ave SE it’s a great hangout spot, however good old Calgary ‘spring’ weather kicked in so we quickly headed for cover at Chinook Malls underground parake. More car talk, shooting the shit and some quick pictures as seen below.

Group shot.

iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet – April…

You can almost feel it in the air. The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, and the cars that have been hiding are starting to come out. The season is almost upon us, and for a handful of people, it already has. And that means the 403 Honda/Beyond.ca weekly meets are starting to get into full swing. I’ve been to a few already, and they’ve been starting to get busier and busier. Here are a few snaps I took that somewhat darker night, then it got cold, so I put the camera away:

Driven 2013

Save The Date: illmotion @ Driven 2013

It’s that time of the year again!!!

Time to mark your calendars because on May 11, 2013, Driven is back for another year and it’s all going down at the Olympic Oval!

With more than 250 cars in attendance last year, there’s no doubting the caliber of cars that will be on hand as Calgary kicks off the 2013 car season with one of our favorite shows to attend, Driven.

Featuring appearances by UFC Former Middleweight Champion and Future Hall of Famer, Rich Franklin (brought to you by Dr. Detail), models Annie Anaya (Stampede Scion Booth) and Calgary’s own Hailan Q. (Cooper Tires Booth), as well as performances by Jason Chen, Clara C. and Chantelle Truong at the Stampede Scion Stage, there is surely something for everyone to check out at this year’s Driven show!

For those who may not know, this will be illmotion’s 3rd year attending the Driven Show in Calgary. With that being said, we’re always looking for ways to make the next show as exciting (if not more exciting), than the last.

In typical illmotion fashion, we are very excited to reveal a very special guest who will be joining us at this year’s event. Be sure to come kick it with the crew at the illmotion booth as we will be joined by one of the hottest Import Models/Drifters around, Melyssa Grace!

Driven is exactly ONE MONTH AWAY so make sure you SAVE THE DATE!!!

We’ll see you on May 11th!!!
