Another week has gone by, and that means another edition of the weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet! Its nice to see these meets getting busier and busier as the weeks go by and the weather starts cooperating. Its nice to see cars that come every week, and see how they progress as the season goes by. Its also been great in the fact that the cars are getting more and more diverse.

Here’s a quick taste of some of the cars that were out this week, for lots more shots, check out the set on our Flickr stream: HERE

iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet – April…

You can almost feel it in the air. The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, and the cars that have been hiding are starting to come out. The season is almost upon us, and for a handful of people, it already has. And that means the 403 Honda/Beyond.ca weekly meets are starting to get into full swing. I’ve been to a few already, and they’ve been starting to get busier and busier. Here are a few snaps I took that somewhat darker night, then it got cold, so I put the camera away:

iM Feature: Sasa Karna’s 2004 Acura TSX

Taking a look at the car scene in its current state, it seems as though everybody has been raising the bar not only to compete with peers in the scene, but also to compete within themselves to keep their car moving in a positive progression, just to ensure there is something new to present every season. With everybody being so involved with their own projects/projects of peers in the scene however, there’s always been a certain negative debate that arises from this. This debate of course being the parts that owners decide to put on their own cars. When looking at “illmotion” specifically, “real parts” or “fake parts”, everybody in the group has mutually agreed that an individual’s car can be appreciated, no matter what parts the owner has put on it.

Now, while the members of illmotion do support the push for quality parts, we cannot be irrational when it comes to the cars that we feature JUST because of the parts that any individual has chosen to use for their car, nor do the owners have to justify whatever parts they’ve implemented onto their vehicles. Hell, we would only be lying to ourselves if we said everybody in illmotion have never rocked replica parts. We’re almost certain this goes for everybody in the game as well.

By keeping that in mind, what we can do however, is respect and appreciate the time, work and effort that individuals put into their vehicles, and it’s cars like this 2004 Acura TSX owned by Sasa Karna, that comes to mind.

null

A look at the exterior of Sasa’s TSX, and what is immediately noticed is the rarity of it’s Indigo Blue paint and it’s smooth flowing stance sitting low on Battleship grey powder coated Varrstoen 2.2.1 road wheels, mounted and balanced by the homies at Urban X South. Attention to detail is key as the blacked out grille and blacked out chrome belt moldings are noted. Another feature noticed on Sasa’s Acura is the 2006-08 TSX Conversion and it’s OEM A-Spec lip kit. Welding and fabrication work was performed by Andrew Ciotti, who Sasa could not stress enough to thank.

null

null

null

A look at the interior of Sasa’s 2004 Acura TSX and once again Attention To Detail plays a critical role as a few interior panels have been applied with 3M Di-Noc Vinyl and a Crown Royal purple shift boot sits perfectly in the shift box. A little JDM flavor is found in the interior as Sasa has a pair of Accord Euro-R seats with Takata Harnesses and Accord Euro-R pedals for footwork.

null

null

Achieving the stance on Sasa’s TSX are a set of Tein Superstreet coilovers, and ARP extended studs in the rear that are accompanied by 10mm spacers. For more chassis and suspension support, Sasa also implemented an Ingalls Rear Camber Kit and Comptech Rear Sway Bar.

null

null

As the engine and performance department remains somewhat stock (Injen Cold Air Intake and T1R Test Pipe with No Cat being notable mods), Sasa’s close attention to detail continues to make it’s way under the hood with custom painted engine covers and painted valve cover.

null

So there you have it, a well rounded daily driven TSX owned by Sasa Karna. When paying close attention to what Sasa has actually done to his TSX, you can definitely take into account all the hard work and time that he put into it, regardless of what parts he chose to live up to the task when driving his TSX on the daily.

Getting back into that and the current state of the scene, who are we anyways to judge what people do to their cars? And for what reason does an individual have to jusfity him/herself for what they decide to put on their car, as in the end, it ultimately is, their car? As far as we’re concerned, if the passion and dedication is there, there’s nothing left to do but appreciate what’s been done.

Something you might want to at least think about before judging someone’s car based on what parts are on it. Have a look at Sasa’s TSX, and you’ll see why we appreciate builds like his.

iM Feature: Kevin Wong’s 2008 Acura CSX Type-S

Kevin Wong, an admitted Honda fanboy, is no stranger to the JDM movement. He has owned an EP3 SiR that followed the Type R guidelines with Work wheels, JDM Recaros etc. Unfortunately  this EP3 would be the victim of an unfortunate and career ending accident and with all motivation lost to put his car back on the road. Kevin looked on to the newest generation Civic at the time, and in the end he would go with the CSX Type-S.

Honda Japan actually used the Canadian designed CSX for their template of the JDM Civic and shares some of the same features, mainly the 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC engine. With Kevin’s motivation back on track this CSX was ripe for conversion. This car would dawn the JDM Mugen aero kit at first but around 2010 this would later be swapped out for Type-R gear slowly  to what you see today.

Any hint of Acura has been removed and replaced with the ever so recognizable Type-R emblems and badges.

Up front, you’ll find a Mugen styled Type-R grille and hood. Kevin takes it a step further to make this Type R even more aggressive with the addition of a J’s Racing Type-X front lip, air ducts and ARC Magic Winglets.

3M Charcoal Tint can be found wrapping up the headlights as well as a set of 17″ Work Emotion XD9 wrapped in Falken Azenis. Tucked underneath all that are a set of Spoon callipers and Powerslot Rotors front and rear.

In the rear, air passing under the car is diffused via a J’s Racing rear diffuser as well as a streamlined with a Type-R spoiler.

With the exterior looking like the real deal its only fair to pack the appropriate punch, in the power department we can find a stage 2 CT-Engineering supercharger, Rick Spec’d 3.5″ Intake, T1R Crank Pulley, T1R Race Header, T1R 70R Dolphin Exhaust. The car is yet to be dyno’ed but you can expect this Honda to be over 250+ HP.

The AJRC GT mirrors replace those bulky stock ones and help complete the look of this subtly aggressive CTR, EP3 side makers and OEM window visors can be found here too.

Having tracked the car at Stratotech before the supercharger was installed, he was unhappy with the performance of his car. So Kevin now has plans to increase the output of the motor to stay competitive; let’s just say that his motivation is definitely back on track!

iM Feature: Terry Woo’s 1998 Acura Integra Type-R

You’ve heard it over and over again, and anyone with a true project car will swear by it: a project car is never truly finished, it just continues to progress and get better over time. A lot of cars come and go, but it’s the ones that come out and continue to keep up with the times that truly stand out and set the tone for both newcomers and those already familiar to the scene. As repetitive as we may sound regarding project cars that are never done and maintain consistency, there’s a particular Integra Type-R that takes everything we’ve always been saying, and takes things to a completely different light. With a super extensive parts list that will make any Honda fan boy fall head over heels in amazement, this Integra Type-R is owned by none other than Terry Woo.

An exterior look of Terry’s Integra Type-R and “Subtle Aggression” immediately comes to mind. Featuring a full JDM DC2 front conversion, complete with OEM Type-R optional side and rear skirts, a DC2 Voltex wing and sporting Volk’s timeless classic TE37s to name a few, there’s no denying the super functional yet aggressive appearance of Terry’s immaculate build.

Moving onto the interior, and the attention to detail that Terry has implemented into his Integra definitely goes unnoticed. While the biggest highlight in the interior of this Integra are the Mugen S1R Bucket Seats complete with Mugen rails, the subtle things make a huge statement such as the full 2001 CDM Red and USDM Faux CF Interior. The Mugen FG360 steering wheel, OEM Checkered Floor mats and trunk mat, JDM airbag delete, JDM Red Stitch Shift Boot, and Spoon/Mugen Hybrid instrument cluster are just a few more of the attention to detail pieces that truly make Terry’s Type-R stand out.

To stiffen and ultimately upgrade the chassis/handling of his Type R, Terry pulls out all the right stops as his Integra sports Tein Flex coilovers with EDFC, a JDM Front Sway Bar, Mugen rear sway bar, a Carbing 3 Point Strut Tower Bar, J’s Roll Center Adjusters, and Miracle X-Bars complete with the optional strut bar. Just recently, Terry added new hardened front and rear trailing and control arm bushings with Hard Race end links.

As we mentioned earlier, real project cars continue to progress and get better over time. We can’t stress this enough when we see cars like Terry’s as the powerplant he has chosen keeps up with today’s technology. Underneath the hood of Terry’s Type-R is a fully built K20 Motor. For more power, Terry’s K20 is boosted with a GT35R Turbo set up and to give the engine less restriction, a custom 3″ Fujitsubo exhaust was implemented as well. Conservatively tuned with 91 Octane, Terry’s Boosted K20 is rated at 400whp/290tq @ 17psi. Not only putting down impressive power, Terry’s attention to detail continues in the engine bay with what seems like countless Mugen goodies as well to the engine and radiator cap, coil pack cover, all the way down to the bolts.

With what undeniably seems like the total package and a modification list that any Honda/Type-R enthusiast would only dream of having, it’s no wonder that Terry’s friends have given him the moniker “Dailo R”, which can also be found on his license plate. For those wondering the meaning of “Dailo”, in Chinese it translates to “Big Brother”, but is also used as a slang meaning “Boss”; which is quite fitting for the hard work and dedication that’s been put into Terry’s Integra. With what we’d like to call a true project car, it’s cars like Terry’s Type-R that continue to motivate and inspire the rest of us, always looking to keep up with the lifestyle of real function and true form.

iM Random Snaps: Friday Night Lights

With Summer quickly drawing to a close and the fall season pretty much upon us, the homies got together on this lovely Friday evening to take advantage of the nice weather and patio it up for dinner in Downtown Calgary. The evening was absolutely perfect for kicking it on a patio and once we finished eating, we decided to head to Village Ice Cream for some dessert and hang out for a bit to enjoy the ambient light set up that is located just beside the recently opened Ice Cream shoppe. There’s definitely nothing like chillin’ with the homies, enjoying some ice cream and admiring each others whips under a city night sky. But instead of being so cheesy about it, have a look at some photos we managed to snap while we were kicking it outside of Village Ice Cream…

iM Random Snaps: It’s Always A Good Time

Whoa oh oh, oh oh oh!

ANYWAYS! With the hustle and bustle of the crew trying to get as much photo shoots done as possible before the winter hits, it feels as though that’s all we’ve been focusing on as of late, and have lost touch with what the automotive “scene” is all about for us: having a good time.

Since the summer season started, we’ve been very busy with organizing for Driven, Sunday School, and other small events here and there. One Saturday night we figured it would be nice to just kick back, and enjoy a few burgers and shakes at Peter’s Drive-In. With great company on hand, we figured it wouldn’t be “illmotion” without a few photos of the homies who came out with us on this lovely evening.

Check out a few pics of our Saturday night and look forward to many more photos like this, because in the end it really is, always a good time!

iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca – September 12,…

Got a set of pictures from last nights meet, its getting harder and harder to shoot out there with it getting dark so fast, so I apologize once again for the crappy quality pictures. Try to make it out to these meets as there isn’t much time left in the season.

And for those of you that don’t know, the 5th Annual 403 Honda/Beyond OG/Everyone SuperMeat is on September 26th, 7-10pm. Hope to see you guys there! More info: HERE

iM Highlight: Twin TSX’s

‘The Acura TSX.
Known as the European Accord or JDM Accord outside of North America, The Acura TSX (Touring Sportscar eXperimental) was introduced to North America in late 2003 as an entry level mid-size luxury sedan.’

Take that cheesy and kind of lame introduction and from an initial standpoint, the TSX wouldn’t exactly be the first weapon of choice when it comes to having a vehicle to modify, whether it be as a modded daily driver or a dedicated project car. It’s because of this exact mentality though, that some of the most cleanest and well done cars out there, are the ones that enthusiasts wouldn’t even think twice to modify; such as the TSX. In a day and age where practically any vehicle with good form and fitment is embraced by peers in the car scene, it’s no wonder that cars like the TSX are becoming more and more of a popular modding platform. Have a look at Justin and B’s “Twin TSXs”, and you just might have an idea as to why.

null

A look at these two TSXs together, and what is immediately brought to one’s attention are the similar characteristics that these two share, such as the A-Spec front lip, the aggressive stance and of course the Volk CE28N wheels that both TSXs are rocking. Now, while both vehicles do share the same features, it’s the execution of these two TSXs that ultimately set them apart.

null

B’s TSX, which is her also her winter and summer car, always sported a conservative, functional look. Taking things a step further this year, B’s refreshed take on the TSX platform is undeniably that of style and grace, as her TSX sits proper on a powdercoated set of 18×8.5 +30 Volk CEs. Bringing her TSX closer to the pavement are a set of T1R B-Max Coilovers. Sporting a full OEM A-Spec Kit, an M3 Style trunk lip spoiler, and Mugen visors, this is one TSX that is sure to turn heads with it’s Satin Silver Metallic exterior rolling low on brilliant white Volks; and just like sri-lankan rapper MIA says, bad girls do in fact, do it well.

null

null

null

Onto Justin’s TSX, and arguably you’re looking at one of the lowest TSX’s, if not THE lowest TSX out there, on this side of the country. Justin, who originally wanted to keep his TSX as an untouchable daily driver, bit the bullet and decided to jump on a set of Function Form Type One Coilovers, which practically brought Justin’s TSX straight to the ground. With some encouragement from B herself, Justin acquired a set of 17×8.5 +50 (with 20mm spacers in the rear) Volk CEs, which is where the moniker of the “Twin TSXs” came from. Although still an undergoing project, Justin proves that having an aggressively low set up that practically tucks mad tire, can still break necks. With a simple and aggressive set up, this is something that Justin can definitely be happy about.

null

null

null

Just from looking at a pair of well executed TSX’s, it’s definitely safe to say that it does not matter what car you choose to have as a modded daily driver or dedicated project car; as long as it’s done right. With the TSX being your typical mid size sedan that is often overlooked, and somewhat rare to see in the automotive scene, Justin and B have both been able to turn an everyday car into quite the head turner. Take a look for yourself and you’ll see what these twins are all about…
