iM Highlight: Shaun’s 1928 Ford Model A

The boys over at Hooptie Life Garage, particularly Shaun Harman (owner) have put together this awesome little Rat Rod with a ton of power and a pretty impressive build.  It took Shaun 9 months to build the car with guidance from his father, Tim. Including fabricating the frame himself and countless hours turning wrenches and busting knuckles.

The entire car was built from 100% stock into what you see hear today…..in a 2 car garage….in the middle of winter. Shaun had the car road legal on May 1st 2014 and decided the best way to break in his freshly built 86 year old car was with a 2000km round trip down to Sandpoint Idaho! We’re glad to report no issues at all, the car now has 2700km on it and is running perfectly.

Here’s a few features of what this killer Rat is armed with:

– 4″ chop

– 3″ channel over the frame

– Custom built frame by Shaun himself

– Triangulated 4 link in the rear on air suspension

– 4″drop tube solid axle in the front

– Ford 9″ rear end

– 700r4 transmission

– Chevrolet 454 big block Chevrolet engine

– Coy wheels. 18×8 front and 20×10 in the rear

I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them! Thanks for checking out the highlight.

iM: The Re-Up 2013 (Part 4)

Gonna wrap things up in the features/highlights side of things as we roll ahead with Part 4 of 2013 Re-Up series! Definitely stay tuned for Part 5 & 6 as we take a look back at Driven 2013 and Sunday School 2013! Let’s get right to it…

There’s no denying the fact that the FR-S has definitely made it’s imprint on the automotive scene this past year but it’s awesome to see the new school “86” owners linking up with the old school “86” owners like we have here featuring Beniot’s FR-S and Spencer’s AE86. Peep the old school and new school love.

When the Honda Fit is brought up amongst car enthusiasts, one thing comes to mind: ‘it’s a daily driver’. Be that as it may, the Honda Fit as many of us may not know has a very strong tuning culture in Japan. A look at Gangster D’s daily driven Honda Fit and one will you can get a pretty good idea of what can be done to Honda’s beloved subcompact car.

iM Feature: Daniel’s 2007 Honda Fit

An S14 with a 1JZ power plant?! For Noel, this build in the works is definitely worth it…and we can’t wait to see what Noel has up his sleeve for this coming season!

iM Highlight: Noel’s S14 Nissan 240SX

Undeniably a big part of car history, the Shelby Mustang lives on in today’s car society and it’s owners like Rob who don’t let anyone forget about Ford’s prized pony.

iM Highlight: Rob’s 2007 Ford Shelby GT500

illmotion’s videographer Corey O’Hara, hits us with another one of his masterpieces this time showcasing Terry’s immaculate 1998 Acura Integra Type-R. We definitely can’t wait to see more videos like this from Corey this year!

Wrapping up 2013 was an update on Ricky’s Volkswagen GTI. With that perfect fusion of Japanese and German performance Ricky definitely goes the distance to making his GTI stand out from typical European fashion.

iM: The Re-Up 2013 (Part 3)

Moving along with Part 3 of our Re-Up 2013 series highlighting a car from Edmonton and the rest coming out of Toronto courtesy of our illmotion East/Level One representative and photographer Galen Wan aka GAWA, and photographer Alex Lu. Let’s take a look at part 3!

Something we definitely look for when it comes to the cars we showcase here on illmotion is the originality and uniqueness of the platform that the owner decides to build upon. A good example of keeping things different yet still turning heads is Jules and her Ford Focus ZX5.

iM Highlight: Jules Cragg’s Ford Focus ZX5

Coming out of the Level One crew is DC and his MK6 VW GTI. Equipped with air suspension and sitting on all time classic BBS LM wheels, DC’s GTI is on route to becoming another one of those proper VW builds.

Without a doubt one of the most popular features to come from Galen in the year 2013 is Next Mod owner Peter and his HKS GT800 Nissan GT-R. Equipped with a plethora of JDM goodness, it’s only right Next Mod’s head honcho comes correct with a build of this caliber.

iM Feature: Peter’s HKS GT800 Nissan GT-R

Another popular feature from Galen this past year was Jacky’s 2006 Honda S2000. What started out as a dream eventually became a reality for Jacky and it sits in the form of the S2000 you see here:

iM Feature: Jacky’s 2006 Honda S2000

Wrapping up part 3 of our Re-Up 2013 series is fellow Level One homie Danio and his latest build. Departing from his infamous S2000, Dan keeps it in the Honda family and it looks like he’s on the right track to building yet another infamous build with this NA1 NSX.

iM Highlight: Rob’s 2007 Ford Shelby GT500

The Ford Shelby GT500, often regarded as one of the most iconic American muscle cars created by the late Carroll Shelby, captivated this car lover from the very beginning. Starting out in 1965, the Shelby Mustang was brought to light to fill the racing void in Ford’s lineup and has been a star ever since. Having taken a break with production in 1970 Rob’s love for this car was made a reality when it was reintroduced in 2007.

Rob picked up this example of Carroll Shelby’s masterpiece in 2011, after owning many mustangs, and got straight to work, bringing the style of the retro Shelby into fruition by adding the tungsten grey racing stripes and the Cervins rear tail lights circa 1968 GT500. Keeping the American muscle alive Rob tastefully fitted the car with genuine Ford Racing parts including axle back mufflers and short throw shifter. With a little upgrade to the supercharger pulley and some additional air flow with the JLT cold air intake, the tune from the Mustang Shop brought Rob’s car to push 630HP.

With all the additional goods putting down so much power, Rob decided it was time to bring his grip in check by special ordering a set of Shelby America wheels in 20×9 front and 20×10 rear. A small amount of gap reduction with the Eibach lower springs made it a little easier to throw the American muscle car into corners. With the history of the car and the love that Rob has for the Shelby Mustang it’s no wonder this car has become what it is today.

iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet – July…

Better late than never, right? Sorry for the delay, been busy over here. Here are a bunch of pics from the July 24th 403 Honda/Beyond.ca meet. Nice to see the diversity in vehicles continue with more and more cars from different manufacturers showing up.

iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet – July…

Welcome to another entry of pics from the July 17th edition of the weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meets at Chinook Centre. Last Wednesday was an interesting one. Around 5pm a big rain storm hit the city again, causing a few roads to flood once more and all but kill the hope of going to the Wednesday meet. But alas, as quickly as the storm came, it ended. Afterwards there was tons of sun, and the roads dried up fairly quickly, so I decided to make the trek down to Chinook to see how few people showed up. As you can see in these pictures, surprisingly it was an awesome turnout. Great to have people dedicated to their hobby as much as they are.

Here are a few snaps from the night, I tried my best to work with the bright sun and long shadows. These and more can be found here on our Flickr set: HERE

How romantic! =P

Before we end it here, even though I shouldn’t have to say it, there have been several incidents in the last few weeks to lead me to believe otherwise, so I’ll say it again. No speeding or BOVing up the ramp, no drifting, no revving engines, no super loud music, no burnouts. Basically, don’t do stuff that you wouldn’t do if a cop was hanging out there. We have a decent relationship with the staff and security at Chinook Centre because we are respectful to their lot and the residences across the street (who have on occasion called in to mall security and/or police because of these said hooligans). Don’t do stupid things to ruin it for the rest of the people who enjoy hanging out there.

Hope to see you guys all well behaved on Wednesday!

iM Highlight : Jules Cragg’s Ford Focus Zx5

If there were any words that you could use to describe Jules’ Focus when it first rolls up, “Smitten” would have to be one of them. A Street Appearance Package front and rear bumper set, along with an RS Style spoiler and a mix of other customized bits really set off the initial impression of the car, and really differentiate it  from your “average” Focus.
As a Ford fan through and through (she actually has the iconic Ford “mustang” tattooed on her arm, and her daughter bears  the name “Eleanor”), the Focus was an ideal platform to start building her daily driver and child hauler.

She admitted  to me she wishes she was lower, but daily driving in a city that is home to millions of chasms between traffic lights, practicality and reliability was a factor. Regardless of ride height, you can’t deny that she’s nailed down an excellent flush fitment for her Rotiform BLQ’s.

She has hinted that she’s pretty satisfied with the exterior appearance of the car, and will hopefully be getting into some engine work and go-fast parts in the next few seasons.

iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet – April…

It was a gorgeous night out for the last 403 Honda/Beyond.ca at Chinook, and that meant a really awesome turnout, the best turnout we’ve seen all season. Hopefully the meets stay as busy as they have been, if not busier!

Here’s a few of the many shots I took. To see the rest, check out the set on our Flickr stream: HERE

iM Event Coverage: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond.ca Meet – April…

You can almost feel it in the air. The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, and the cars that have been hiding are starting to come out. The season is almost upon us, and for a handful of people, it already has. And that means the 403 Honda/Beyond.ca weekly meets are starting to get into full swing. I’ve been to a few already, and they’ve been starting to get busier and busier. Here are a few snaps I took that somewhat darker night, then it got cold, so I put the camera away:
