iM Feature: Jacky’s 2006 Honda S2000

Some would call this a true testament when it comes to living life: When you have a dream, you set goals for yourself to ensure that certain dream becomes a reality. Now, we can certainly all agree that this doesn’t happen overnight, in fact, it may happen over the course of a year or even 10 years, or it could even go on for a lifetime. Once that dream becomes a reality however, the outcome is most definitely satisfying. For Jacky, what started off as a dream becomes reality and it comes in the form of his Honda S2000.

Being a mechanic, Jacky definitely had the upper hand when it came to building his S2000 to the exact specifications that he wanted. As we begin in the suspension department, Jacky pulls out all the right moves with Tein RS dual adjustable coilovers. To keep his S2000 planted to the ground, Jacky implemented a JIC “X-Brace” and Eibach front and rear sway bars. For even more grip to the floor, a set of 17×9.5 Volk TE37SL’s wrapped in Advan AD08s fulfill the role.

With all the right suspension, Jacky continues his onslaught of performance as his S2000 sports an HKS Supercharger under the hood. A J’s Racing Header, T1R Test Pipe, and an Amuse R1 Titan Single Exhaust further enhance the engine’s breathability. With formidable power present under the hood, Jacky ensures his S2000 stops on a dime with Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake Lines, Spoon 4-Pot Monoblock Brake Calipers and Project Mu Brake Pads (B-Force for the street, and Club Racer for the track).

Undeniably built for the track, the interior and exterior of Jacky’s S2000 follow suit. With a Bride Vios III seat, a Mugen III steering wheel, ASM Floor Mats and Defi gauges immediately noticed in the cockpit, the interior definitely flows with the exterior of Jacky’s build. Moving on to the exterior of Jacky’s S2000, it’s pretty evident that Jacky looked to Voltex to make this S2000 look as good as it performs. Jacky’s S2000 is aesthetically furnished with a Voltex Race Version Bumper (with Carbon Canards), Side skirts, rear diffuser, and a Voltex Type 2 1600mm Wing (with 275mm stands and 30mm riser). To compliment the Voltex aero pieces, Jacky also sports a Mugen FRP Hardtop and an ASM FRP Hood.

Boasting an overall impressive build both inside and out of Jacky’s S2000, dreams definitely become a reality as Jacky’s S2000 looks and performs just the way he envisioned it. Being that the S2000 was one of the cars that Jacky dreamed of owning, you may begin to wonder what else Jacky “dreams” of owning. If you guessed an NA2 NSX, give yourself a pat on the back! But we can’t even begin to wonder what route Jacky will go should he get his hands on one. But before we even begin to dream about that, let’s have a look at the reality that is Jacky’s Honda S2K…

Corolla

For Trade: AE71 Toyota Corolla For Type AB Kidney

Back in 2009, before illmotion even started, I was blessed with the opportunity to check out one of the most humble car shows I’ve ever been to, the Japanese Classic Car Show (JCCS) held in Irvine, California. There were many vintage Japanese cars on hand and it was definitely an amazing experience as I got to meet many amazing people such as Antonio Alvendia of MotorMavens.

null

Another gentlemen I met during my trip is Benjamin Cesar Fernandez, owner of this super mint AE71 Toyota Corolla custom painted by PJ Bonifacio. Featuring a fully built 4AGE by Race Toys and a fully restored AE71 chassis, Benji’s been featured on countless magazines (Super Street, Retro Cars UK to name a few) and has won many awards at shows we’re all very familiar with such as Slammed Society, Spocom, Toyotafest and of course JCCS. If that isn’t enough, Benji has also tried and tested his AE71 at various track day events in California.

null

Fast forward to today, and I was informed by my Father of Benji’s unfortunate situation and possible solution that we here at illmotion would like to spread the word about: Benji is in search of a clean Type AB Kidney and is willing to trade his prized AE71 Toyota Corolla for it.

If you guys know anyone who is willing to give their spare Type AB Kidney and gain Benji’s AE71 Toyota Corolla, please send him an email at bcvf5@sbcglobal.net

null

Currently on dialysis and on a waiting list for a Kidney since 2011, Benji is in real need of this kidney so he can continue on and enjoy life with his wife and his 2 year old son, Wayne.

We also just want to point out that we are unaware of the legalities behind a deal like this, but we would hope someone out there could help Benji in his search, and this post is just to show you how much he’s willing to give just to get this specific Kidney to live his life.

Thank you all for your time,

Benji, you are in our thoughts and prayers and we wish you all the best!!!

PS: the pictures of Benji’s AE71 Toyota Corolla that you see here were taken during my trip to JCCS in back in 2009. =)

GT-R

iM Feature: Peter’s Nissan GT-R

When you’re operating one of THEE go to tuner shops out in Toronto, what do you drive?

For Peter of Nextmod, the answer is pretty straight forward and to the point: A Nissan GT-R.

Considering the GT-R is still fairly new, this certainly did not stop the aftermarket from supporting GT-R owners like Peter and the hunger for more performance, and inevitably more power. Being exposed to some of the biggest names in aftermarket performance on a 9 to 5 basis, Peter definitely had the upper hand when it came to building his GT-R and it really shows in all aspects of his car.

The focal point of Peter’s GT-R is found in it’s heart and soul, under the bonnet. In the engine bay, Peter looked to build upon the GT-R’s already impressive out of the box power plant, with hefty modification packages by HKS including a full GT800 turbine kit, GT570 Sport Package, and a GT600 Racing Package. Exactly what do these packages entail? Long story short, everything from the turbo, intercooler, and piping down to the exhaust goes through an upgrade. HKS was not messing around when it came to improving the GT-R’s performance on every level, which we are pretty sure Peter was well aware of. *wink wink*

To maintain Nissan’s sporty exterior styling, Peter added aero pieces that provided a subtle yet aggressive aura with an Amuse Powerhouse front lip and a Voltex 1700mm Type 5 GT Wing. Less is more with the interior of Peter’s GT-R as he swaps out the original seats with Recaro SR-7 ASM Limited Ruby Red seats. a full Carbon interior dress up kit can also be noticed inside this GT-R. To keep the car planted to the ground without sacrificing ride comfort, KW’s coilover sleeve kit was implemented and paired with 20″ Advan GT wheels wrapped in Toyo R888 tires.

With a well thought out project both inside and out, it’s no wonder Peter chose the GT-R as his prized showcase when pointing his Nextmod customers in the right direction to performance, function and form. After all, when you’re the head honcho of a tuner shop like Nextmod, it’s only fair that you have a car that will get people coming back for more. And Peter’s GT-R, is something we definitely cannot get enough of.

iM Event Coverage: 2013 Rolling Sculpture Father’s Day Car…

Each year in Canmore Alberta the Rolling Sculpture Car Club hosts a car show for Father’s Day. This year, on June 16th, numerous cars from the area attended to celebrate the day and filled up the town’s Centennial Park. Awards were given out to some lucky owners and funds were raised to provide lunches to school children within the Bow Vallery Area.
I attended and made sure to capture some photos of the event to show the variety of vehicles that were brought out for the day. There will be a second part of coverage to follow this one, so stay tuned!

Edmonton

iM Event Coverage: Edmonton Summer Fest June 23, 2013

The start of the summer solstice was last weekend, and what better time to kick off the beginning of summer with?!? a car show and farmers market! I loved the idea of this the first time i heard of it, Kee Productions teamed up with the South Edmonton Farmers Market to bring us Edmonton Summer Fest. It was a beautiful day to be out and a bout, when I first arrived I had to go through the market area first. Sundays are a usual grocery/chore day for myself, so being able to squeeze in a car show while out accomplishing mundane tasks was a definite plus! You’ll find all the typical fruit, veggie and bread vendors at this market, but my favourite had to be the German sauerkraut hot dogs! With my groceries packed up and my appetite now at bay it was time to hit up the show. The show had a decent turn out, with a large showing from the Alberta G/Z Club.

Repping a wide array of rides from those with plenty of go

to static daily drivers…

…a carbon clad 370z

and this mild mannered 350z.

An easy favourite for me was this stanced out 5th gen Camaro.

Hondas were out too!

And the rest!

Definitely looking forward to this show again next summer!

GTI

iM Highlight: DC’s Volkswagen GTI MK6

When our Level One/illmotion East photographer Galen (aka Gawa) first informed us that there was a Level One GTI on the come up, we just could not wait to see what was in store for it. “DC”, the owner of this GTI, previously owned a J’s Racing-themed Honda Fit lowered on Volk RE-30s. Being a big fan of Volkswagens running air suspension (especially MK4s) and looking for something a little more on the “Classy and Comfortable” side, DC felt it was time to move on from his Honda Fit build and had his heart set on the Volkswagen MK6 GTI platform.

Putting in work in no time, DC got his GTI lowered on a Bagriders Air Suspension Kit (Shout out to Kevin at AirAssisted). We also can’t help but pay attention to the detail pieces that DC has implemented into his GTI, such as the Euro GTI Led Taillights and the OEM Euro GTI front lip. Following classic Volkswagen protocol, DC’s wheel of choice is none other than one of BBS’s most sought after wheels, the LM. Achieving that “OEM+ look” slammed to the ground is exactly what DC was aiming for. An APR Stage 1 tune was also added to the mix for DC’s work in progress.

If “Classy and Comfortable” is the name of the game for DC, then his GTI is definitely on the right track to becoming another one of those talked about cars coming out of the Level One YYZ camp! With future plans of a Stage 2 Tune (supporting Engine & Drivetrain modifications included) and a possible color change, DC’s GTI is definitely something we can’t to hear/see more from!

iM Updates

Alberta Flood

As many of you may already know the province of Alberta faced a natural disaster with the past few days bringing major flooding in many cities and causing disruptions to many peoples lives as their homes were soaked in water and in some situations wiped out completely.

With any disaster, the efforts of those who are there to ensure people are okay and things return back to normal for those affected, are the ones most appreciated. Red Cross being one of those that helps out in the toughest of situations has been a strong force in Alberta throughout this ordeal.

With clean-up starting in many areas and people returning back to their homes, the efforts required to give these people back their lives is tremendous and with that illmotion is willing to help in any way we can. For the month of June and July 50% of all store sales will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Floods Fund. We hope that the strength of the Alberta people and the help from all the surrounding areas brings a speedy and safe recovery to the lives of the people affected by this destructive disaster.

Edmonton

iM Event Coverage: Father’s Day Show & Shine –…

12 years ago we started our first ever Father’s Day Show & Shine. With around 30 cars in attendance, we were more than happy that people actually showed up for our event. We quickly decided this would be an annual event at our church and soon saw that every year the show was growing exponentially in size. As the show gained a reputation in our city we found that people actually looked forward to our show each year and even in a rainout, tons of show cars would show up and crowds would still gather to check it all out. The Father’s Day Car Show has now become the largest outdoor car show in Edmonton, as well as the largest Father’s Day event in the city.

While its main focus is Father’s Day and getting dads out to see all the awesome cars, this is a free event for the whole family featuring a family fun zone with carnival activities for the kids, free BBQ, and tons of awards and prizes for all vehicle registrants.

Each year we host over 300 cars, trucks, and bikes with over 4,000 people in attendance. This year’s show was a little rainier than most but once again proved there are hundreds of dedicated people out there waiting to bring out their vehicles to the Father’s Day Car Show.

You might be surprised to hear that a church puts on this type of large-scale event, and that’s exactly what we want. At Church on 99, we’re all about being the church for the unchurched. We love welcoming in people from all walks of life and reaching out to our community as much as possible. Our relevant approach starts with the casual, come-as-you-are atmosphere and extends into our 75 minute services complete with contemporary Christian worship, video elements, and teaching sessions applicable to everyday life.

Next month our church will be moving and being renamed to Celebration Church. Maybe it’s fitting then that our church is relocating to the building formerly known as the Nicholson Chevrolet, which once was Edmonton’s most recognizable car showroom and dealership. We hope to see you at our 13th annual car show on June 13th, 2014.

Now on to the pictures provided by the volunteers of the church!
