iM Highlight: Alex’s Flared GC8

Every car has that one modification that’s necessary to make it mildly ‘cool’, the first thing you’d do to it before taking it out to a cars and coffee event. The GT86 needs larger wheels to fix the sunken-boat fitment, an S-Chassis needs coilovers and some sort of ‘JDM’ plush toy, and so on. But what about when EVERY one of that certain car has the same entry level mods? Cheap wheels and Canadian tire exhaust are common sight these days, so when someone steps outside the box and brings a new look to the table, it’s a welcome sight-

Such is the case with Alex Sparke’s 1995 Subaru WRX.

When dream meets daily driver, you often end up with a very eye-catching functional vehicle. Tucked under the Wide Works “Universal” 50mm fender flares, the 17 x 10 XXR 531s give this GC8 a much more aggressive stance than from factory, making the V6 STi spoiler look a little less ridiculous.

DSC_0711Living just up the road from Alex and seeing the car around town a lot, the car has transformed from just another GC8, to HIS car. Tasteful modifications to fit ones style are hard to find, especially with those of us fresh out of school and having minimal modification experience. At the time of this article some new additions have been made, one of the most notable (and probably controversial) being white LED puddle lights, yet another item that differentiates this WRX from the mass of others in the Edmonton area. DSC_0673
DSC_0695H&R Trak spacers are behind the large offest, allowing the XXRs to fill the fenders in nicely, as well as Raceland coilovers and camber plates giving the right balance of function and “Moar Low”. DSC_0698

Much like the exterior, his interior has undergone some conservative modifications, such as the Nardi wheel and LikeWise Finger Banger shift ‘knob’

I very much look forward to the changes that will inevitably come as Alex, his car, and “the scene” evolve.

Subtle engine mods include:
Apexi Intake
3″ Invidia divorced catless downpipe
Custom 3″ straight pipe to cannon muffler
Walbro 225lph fuel pump
Robs 440 tune @ 16psi
Carbon STi strut bar
Turbosmart boost controller

5th Annual illmotion Sunday School Show & Shine (Part…

Sunday August 9th, 2015 marked our 5th Annual Sunday School Show & Shine. Continuing in typical Sunday School fashion, enthusiasts from Calgary and surrounding areas reunited at Max Bell Centre to showcase their hard work, dedication and passion all whilst doing it for a charitable cause, with proceeds going to the Calgary Humane Society this year!

Every year certainly continues to grow more and more but none of this would be possible without the support of all the enthusiasts, car clubs, local shops and sponsors. With that said, we can’t stress enough that there is nothing we love more than bringing the car community together for a charitable cause!

As the day was certainly busy for the crew here at illmotion, we would like to take this time to recognize and thank everyone who made this year’s show a success!

First off, a BIG thank you to our co-host and sponsor, Beyond.Ca! Thank you for making this event possible every year for our city!

Many thanks going out to (in no particular order) the shops/sponsors for this year’s Sunday School: Speedoptions, Autodream Motorsports, Balance Auto Garage, The Gear Shop, Haute AG Motorsport, Calgary Autoworks, Country Hills Toyota, South Pointe Toyota, Charlesglen Toyota, Vex Performance, Fineline Customworks, Icon Tinting & Graphics, JordanLotoski.com Real Estate, ATB Financial, Melrose Cafe & Bar, BagBarn.ca, Lithium Autosport, Dub Dynasty, Team Revere, Ridehype.com and last but not least, ThreeTwenty for sponsoring the “Honour Roll” Awards this year!

We would also like to give a special shout out and send mad love to our extended illmotion family for helping us on what was another scorcher of a day! Mucho gracias going out to Alex, Justin, Aldo, Baller Divina, Jackie, Isaac, Nikhil, Brad, Jen, Jimmy of Vex/Poorform & Jason of LifeWithJson for all the help throughout the day. Aldrich aka DJ Candy Boy & Rukus J for dropping nothing but the finest tunes! And of course a HUGE HUGE HUGE thank you to Diana, Cindy, Barb & Nat for manning the illmotion booth all day! We cannot thank you guys enough for everything!!!

Finally, we cannot forget to acknowledge and are always grateful for YOU GUYS! As mentioned above, this show is nothing without the love and support that you guys have constantly given us every year to make this show what it is, and it certainly does get bigger and better every year, and it’s this continuous love and support that drives us to make every Sunday School a memorable one! Thank you guys so much!

Stay tuned for the announcement regarding the donation amount going to the Calgary Humane Society!

In the meantime, let’s take a look at some coverage from this year’s event…
