iM Feature: Gabes 1990 Civic EF Hatch

Being from Vancouver Island, you don’t hear a whole lot about the cars and culture we have. Being a 2 hour ferry ride from Vancouver, and 3 hours from Seattle, the major car populations of those cities over throw what we have, and often times steal the spot light. But little do people know, we have some of the sickest cars around. One being Gabe’s 1990 Honda Civic.

September 2009 marked the starting date of this new project when Gabe purchased the rusted, battered old civic to make it his own. Gabe’s the kind of guy who builds everything himself, from custom down pipes, to waste gate dumps, to piecing together his engine, he certainly doesn’t let anyone else touch his car with a wrench, and certainly doesn’t cut any short cuts when he builds these purpose built projects. Gabe has been building some of the islands cleanest cars for a number of years now out of his small garage at home.

Its been a long time coming, and lets just say that Gabe’s not even close to done yet. He still has plans to make this car look and perform on another level. It’s going to be interesting to watch as he continues on through out the years perfecting this old school hatch. You will be able to see this hatch at this years Driven To Perform event in Vancouver.

Garage Box

iM Event Coverage: GarageBox Auto Innovations – Track Day…

Good weather prevailed unlike the last rainy GarageBox track day, so everyone was in good spirits at Race City on Saturday evening, July 2nd. It was good to see a lot of people out, and lots of cars out. Couple that with some good BBQ that the GarageBox crew were serving up, and it makes for a hell of a fun track day. Look out for the third installment of their track day to be announced soon.

We were out shooting lots of pics, so we’ll get right to it.

Paul and crew serving a good ass BBQ!

Start ’em young!

And of course we can’t miss all the crazy cars in the lot.

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond Meet – July 6, 2011

Another week, and another busy 403 Honda/Beyond Meet at Chinook Centre. Lots of cars out this week, and a bunch that don’t normally show up, so it was a good time had by all. Weather was great this week, so that helped out a lot. Here are a bunch of pics:

Even my goddaughter knows whats up with the NSX:

“Yes Kylah, its rolling on Volk TE-37s…”

Before I finish this post, I do need to address a major concern that a few of our members have noticed close to the end of the meets. If you bring any food or drink out to the meet or go inside to grab something, please pick up after yourselves. There is a lot of bottles, cups, and general garbage that gets left behind whenever the meet is done. I realize the garbage can is a little bit of a walk away, but the staff at Chinook kindly let us use the parkade to meet on Wednesdays, lets show them a little bit of respect, and at least keep the place clean. I’d hate for us to lose a spot to meet because people leave a mess.

Weather permitting, we will see you all next week!

iM: Weekly 403 Honda/Beyond Meet – June 29, 2011

I know its a little late, but here are some pics from last weeks 403 Honda/Beyond meet. I apologize, it wasn’t that busy last week, and I was kinda lazy/tired from work and didn’t take that many pictures, but here are a few anyways. See everyone at the next one!

Civic

iM Feature: Ryan’s 2004 Honda Civic SIR

Was nice to get the entire iM crew out this past weekend, shot the shit and snapped a bunch of pics. Anyways on to my car which has emerged from the garage slightly different then previous incarnations.

The first order of business was getting the whole stance/wheel setup figured out. I had purchased a near perfect sized set of discontinued Volk SE-37k’s almost a year ago. They weren’t in the greatest of shape so refinishing was a must. And as everyone knows the wheels will make or break any great build so the color was a tough decision, however at the end of the day it’s just paint so I went for it….. as seen below. Love it or hate it, OJ orange.

After rolling for 5+ years on extremely lowered set of Tein coilovers it was definitely time for an upgrade. I wanted to go slightly lower so after loads of research and harassment of my fellow EP3 owners I settled on some Buddy Club race spec dampers paired with custom length and spring rate Swift springs.

Last order of business was cleaning up the interior. Was rocking the red Recaro seats for quite some time and the red was obviously going to clash with the OJ wheels so they were sold off in short order. Replaced them with a pair of kevlar backed Status Ring GT’s and Buddy Club super low down rails.

Couple other minor tweaks and the car is officially done for at least another year, possibly longer this time! Ha. Wish it were that easy.

iM Event Coverage

iM Event Coverage: WSC Supermeet 2011 – June 25,…

The Western Subaru Club held their Supermeet this weekend at Vex Performance’s new location in Calgary. We decided to roll up considering that two of our members own Subarus, and my brother tagged along in his STI. There were a huge range of Subarus there, along with some other cars as well. Lots to look at, lots of people to talk to. Unfortunately due to prior engagements, we were not able to stay that long, so we missed out on others that came later on in the day, but we got a lot of pictures while we were there.

We also got a chance to meet Johnny Summers (driver, and owner) of Vex, and we had a great conversation about what he does, cars in general, and future plans. I can say that he is a very nice gentleman to talk to and very down to earth, with major beliefs on the shops tuning philosophies. We also spoke about the possibility of doing a shop spotlight on Vex when they’ve had a bit more time to get set up with more equipment and parts after getting rid of a bunch of stuff before their move from Red Deer. Look forward to that coming up in the future.

Special thanks goes out to Vex Performance, and the WSC for setting up this meet.

Brides

iM Feature: Corey’s Civic Coupe

The Civic is entering it’s 4th year and I decided to change a few things up this year. Last year was all about getting the interior all done, with custom upholstered rear seats and door panels to match the Bride front seats.

This year I had to go back to the exterior. I wanted a new set of wheels and was really unsure what to order over winter because I really liked my RE30’s. Then a set of Meisters became available and I couldn’t pass them up. So now she’s sitting a little wider on a beautiful set of Meister S1’s. I also continued my trend of going slightly lower each year and I believe she’s finally sitting where I want.
