Just recently, some of us from the crew had the opportunity to head over to Toronto, Ontario to check out Importfest 2012. During the trip, we also had the pleasure of meeting our homies from Level One and the man behind their videos, Chris of Backstage Productions. Chris, who was busy through out most of the Imporfest show capturing footage, just completed his latest video, which we are proud to share with all of you!
Enjoy Backstage’s take on Imporfest 2012, in video form:
As many of us already know, the sub culture that is all about stance and wheel fitment definitely seems to be what all the ranting and raving has been about as of late. While this style of modifying doesn’t appeal to everyone, the low stance and aggressive wheel fitment that a lot of the cars out there currently possess, is definitely something that cannot be overlooked. Being in the great Canadian north where it seems like we’re blessed with only 6 months of beautiful sunshine and weather, constant road construction and abused pavement; having a vehicle with aggressive fitment, lots of camber and a super low stance doesn’t seem at all too practical for a daily driver. For Michael Alfarela and his 2010 Mazda3 however, adapting to the current craze that is sweeping the car scene certainly proves no limits or boundaries.
A quick glance at this Mazda3 and what is immediately noticed is the low stance provided by the Yellow Speed Dynamic Pro Coilovers and the aggressive wheel fitment of the 18×9.5 +15 MB Battles powder coated in a Tiffany with metal flake finish. Do a double take, and complimenting the static drop on Tiffany MB Battles is the VIS Carbon Fiber Mazdaspeed hood, Autoexe front bumper and Nextmod sideskirt diffusers, which ultimately provide more of an aggressive stance and exterior appearance for this Mazda3.
To give this Mazda3 a little more of a push, Michael upgraded the vehicle’s breathability with a Corksport Short Ram Intake and a Corksport Power Series Exhaust with race pipe. With such an aggressive appearance, it’s only right that the intake and exhaust set up did not go unnoticed.
Accentuating the Mazda3’s appearance, the interior sports a few pieces that provide some comfort to Michael’s style such as the Sparco Chrono seat found in the driver’s seat, Grip Royal Class steering wheel, and ease of shifting provided by the Proper+ 330mm bubble shift knob.
Being that this Mazda3 looks like it’s literally millimeters off the pavement, we’re really left wondering how Michael is able to drive like this on a daily basis. But because of the fact that Michael is able to pull it off however, we gotta give him nothing but our utmost props for taking on a style that seems almost impossible in a Province that is filled with road construction during the summer, caused by our harsh winters.
With stance and aggressive wheel fitment still being the latest craze and all the talk at the moment, it’s almost as if this is a style that will be here to stay, and will sustain as a part of car culture. Have a look at Michael’s Mazda3, and it’s proven that this style is definitely possible anywhere, no matter what the weather, nor the road conditions.

And last one, just because it was apparently a weight reduction mod performed by the owners significant other. Headlight glass is useless and is way too heavy:
On Saturday, August 25th 2012, the illmotion crew made it out to Toronto, Ontario to check out the Importfest show. Thousands flocked to the Metro Convention Center located in Downtown Toronto to check out the best of the best that the city and surrounding areas had to offer. Imporfest showcased quite the variety of modified imports, domestics, luxury and exotic vehicles, and it was amazing to see how enthusiasts and tuners alike do it up on the east side of Canada. Dubbed as “Canada’s biggest and baddest car show”, Importfest did not disappoint as all styles of tuning and modifying were on hand ranging from form, function, and even one of a kind customs.
The illmotion crew definitely had a good time checking out the variety and uniqueness that this show had to offer and it was awesome to see some good friends and make some new ones!
We would like to take this opportunity to give a huge shout out to our homies from the Level One Crew for repping our decals and definitely holding it down for the scene here in Ontario. Incredible cars guys!
Thank you for a dope experience Importfest!!! Until next time!
There comes a time for anyone who’s ever been a part of this car culture, where a love/hate relationship begins to develop for his/her build. Owners may grow out of love for these builds and feel that it’s time to move on to something else, and others may feel that his/her build is at it’s absolute peak and there is nothing left to do to the car. There are however, owners with nothing but passion and dedication for their project cars, who will always step up to that next level of awesomeness to continue to keep turning heads and continue to inspire others in the game to keep doing their thing.
For those who have followed illmotion since the beginning, some of you may very well know the story of Jackie Law and his 2003 Honda S2000. Dubbed as the “Internet Sensation” a few years back, there isn’t one automotive enthusiast site that hasn’t posted or shared pictures of this J’s Racing inspired Honda S2000. With such recognition over the internet, and even gaining more admirers from the magazine/print world through Honda Tuning, the only question that remained for Jackie was, ‘What else is there left to do with this car?’.
The answer for Jackie at first definitely was not clear, as he was unsure whether or not to give his S2K new life with some drastic changes, or get rid of it completely. A long story short however, Jackie deleted any notion of getting rid of his S2000 and decided that it was time to reclaim the name that was given to him by his peers and come correct with what we feel, is one of the hardest S2000s coming out of the BC Coast.
The biggest, most noticeable change that Jackie presents us with the rebirth of his S2000, is the body and paint work. Anyone who’s seen Jackie’s S2000 in person knows it’s not easy fitting the aggressive wheels that he puts under these fenders, so newly pulled fenders and rear quarters were in order. Since new front fenders were being installed, Jackie stepped his own game up and followed through by repainting the entire vehicle “Moonrock Metallic”. This once “Sebring Silver” S2000 was sure to break necks with a fresh new paint job.
When it comes to fitment and wheel selection, Jackie is no stranger to the game of stance. With the new fender and rear quarter work completed on his S2000, it was time to bring back the aggressively concaved 18×9.5 +22 Volk TE37s, but not with just any ordinary color, however. To accentuate the “Moonrock Metallic” exterior, Jackie opted for a “Bright Yellow Pearl” finish on the TE37s to definitely give his S2000 a louder pop than his previous Sebring Silver/Candy Blue set up.
As a majority of the parts on this S2000 remain the same, there are a few minor updates and refinements that can be found on this S2000, such as a brand new set of T1R B-Max Coilovers, and on the aero side of things, an AP2 rear bumper was added as well as a Voltex Carbon Rear Diffuser.
With the amount of time put into the body work of this S2000, the results definitely came out in Jackie’s favor as he even will agree, that this is the best his S2000 has looked since it’s inception as the “Internet Sensation”. By giving his S2000 the updated look it needed to constantly drop jaws and turn heads, we gotta give Jackie nothing but love and appreciation for what he’s done and what he continues to bring to the table.
As this S2000 remains a work in progress, only time will tell what else Jackie has up his sleeve for his J’s Racing inspired S2000. For now however, let’s just sit back, watch, and find out exactly why Jackie’s S2000 is one of the impact players of this internet game.

On Sunday August 19, 2012, A few of us from the crew made it out to Red Deer, Alberta to check out the Auto Union 2012 Show. Luckily, we were able to catch the last little bit of the show and from what we saw, the cars that attended were definitely suited up for the event. The Auto Union show attracted a pretty decent turn out with some top notch cars of various makes and models. We hope this show happens and again next year and hopefully we are there to participate at the event and of course stay for a longer period of time!
We hope you enjoy a few snaps that we managed to get JUST before the show ended!
If there’s anything that all car enthusiasts can appreciate and respect, it’s a car that is built with pure function in mind. Now, not to take away from current craze of stance and aggressive fitment; which is a movement that continues to grow and get better and better with time, there’s something refreshing about owners who build their cars based on true performance and functionality.
A perfect example of a functional build is Tim’s 1993 Honda Civic EG Hatchback.
Before acquiring this vehicle, this little EG was blessed with a K20A2 swap by it’s previous owner. Working with what the car already had, Tim worked with the K20A2 transplant, ultimately giving this EG new life by adding a Comptech Supercharger with an upgraded pulley. A look under the hood though, and one will find more than just a Supercharged K20 swapped into this EG hatch. Tim’s attention to detail is unparalleled as the engine bay sports numerous Mugen Bolts, Hasport K-Swap motor mounts, a JDM Type-R Valve Cover, and various goodies from Spoon Sports such as the Carbon Kevlar Spark Plug Cover, Oil Cap, and Radiator Cap. As Tim wanted to keep this car on the quiet side without sacrificing performance, a Fujitsubo RMO1A exhaust and R-Crew Race Header prevent this EG from drawing unwanted attention during daily drives.
To support what, undeniably, is a little engine bay jam packed with nothing but pure performance, Tim’s consistency is unmatched as the suspension and chassis components on this vehicle definitely stay on point. For a taste of what exactly keeps this EG planted to the road, Tim enlisted a set of T1R B-Max Coilovers, a Carbing 3-Point Strut Tower Bar, M-Factory Roll Center Adjusters, a Comptech Engineerin Rear Subframe Brace, and ITR front and rear sway bars, just to name a few, to ensure maximum contact to the pavement.
As if that wasn’t enough, Tim continues his onslaught of function with a JDM ITR 5-Lug conversion sporting a mint set of 16″ Spoon SW388s with Rays Lug Nuts. To bring this Supercharged K20 EG to a complete stop, Brembo CAD Plated drilled Rotors and Spoon Sports Twin Block Calipers are more than up to the task.
With the desire to keep this EG looking subtle when out on the town, a look at the exterior of this EG and to the ordinary eye one will definitely see a simple and clean looking Honda. However as mentioned before, Tim’s impeccable attention to detail goes a long way as Honda heads will take note of the Spoon Sports Duckbill Rear Wing, the JDM EG6 amber side markers, fog lights, thin side moldings, and even go as far as pointing out the Spoon Sports Wiper Blades. A Wings West RS front lip and Type-R style rear lip are nicely fitted to the front and rear bumpers of this EG, without a doubt giving it a little eye appeal as well.
As functional as this EG is inside and out, what gives this EG a little more sass compared to others out there, is once again, the little details that make such a huge difference with the overall delivery of this vehicle. Leading by example is the JDM EG6 power folding mirrors set up that was put into this Civic. An in-depth look at the interior of this vehicle and one will find tons of JDM EG6 features that were never available (or only available as options) when the EG was introduced to North America such as JDM EG6 clock, OEM power window conversion, JDM EG6 Center Console and even a JDM EG6 Armrest. Aside from the JDM goodies featured inside this EG, Tim drives comfortably in a Spoon Sports Street Bucket Seat (found in the driver and passenger seat) and a Spoon Sports Steering wheel. A custom JDM ITR Rear Bench also sits in the back of Tim’s EG, to once again point out Tim’s incredible attention to detail.
Presenting all enthusiasts with an EG that people can love or hate, one cannot deny Tim’s pursuit of function and all the details that Tim put into his EG to make it one of the most amazing builds we’ve had the pleasure of sharing here with all of you. With today’s car culture continuing to grow, one can conclude that performance and functionality is not going anywhere and will always be an integral part of this scene. While stance and aggressive fitment is all the craze these days, we definitely gotta give praise and show some love and appreciation to the ones who are out here, trying to function.

We don’t really get to highlight enough of these types of vehicles, but when we do it’s usually a Sport Utility Vehicle that everyone can appreciate. For those who remember Almond and his Dinan chipped BMW 335i (Feature can be found: HERE), then there’s no need to hype his Mercedes-Benz G500 Wagon.
Before we get to the G-Wagon though, Almond did in fact surprise us a little this year with an update on his 335i. Since his last feature, Almond ditched the Work XSA-02Cs and is now rocking one of the greatest wheels of all time, a set of 19″ BBS LMs, which we did manage to get a few shots of as well.
On to the Mercedes G-Wagon, Almond doesn’t disappoint as his Military inspired SUV sits on an uber clean set of 22″ Claus Ettensberger Corporation (CEC) C856 wheels! With an SUV built to look good in both the winter and the summer season we just gotta wonder how Almond chooses between these two toys.
