iM Highlight: Brad Kutz’s 2003 Nissan 350z

Words & Snaps By: Richard Kratz

I met Brad for the first time back in August when I hitched a ride with him down to Calgary for the Sunday School Show and Shine. Having just moved to Edmonton and really not having a clue about the scene here, Brad filled me in on events and local tracks. It was pretty obvious to me that this guy loves motorsports that and he drove 10 hours flat out to Seattle for Formula D.

This Carbon Silver Z definitely stands out on the roads with style in mind. It sits on 19″ transparent blue Varrstoen 2.2.2’s with Achilles ATR sport tires.

In the stance department we have a set of Fortune Auto coil overs and Battle Version toe arms and camber arms.

Brad is full of character and happy to show it! With future mods including sway bars and a front lip, we can’t wait to see the progression of Brad’s Nissan 350Z later on down the road. But for now, let’s appreciate the cleanliness that Brad has attained with his build so far.

iM Feature: Kevin Wong’s 2008 Acura CSX Type-S

Kevin Wong, an admitted Honda fanboy, is no stranger to the JDM movement. He has owned an EP3 SiR that followed the Type R guidelines with Work wheels, JDM Recaros etc. Unfortunately  this EP3 would be the victim of an unfortunate and career ending accident and with all motivation lost to put his car back on the road. Kevin looked on to the newest generation Civic at the time, and in the end he would go with the CSX Type-S.

Honda Japan actually used the Canadian designed CSX for their template of the JDM Civic and shares some of the same features, mainly the 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC engine. With Kevin’s motivation back on track this CSX was ripe for conversion. This car would dawn the JDM Mugen aero kit at first but around 2010 this would later be swapped out for Type-R gear slowly  to what you see today.

Any hint of Acura has been removed and replaced with the ever so recognizable Type-R emblems and badges.

Up front, you’ll find a Mugen styled Type-R grille and hood. Kevin takes it a step further to make this Type R even more aggressive with the addition of a J’s Racing Type-X front lip, air ducts and ARC Magic Winglets.

3M Charcoal Tint can be found wrapping up the headlights as well as a set of 17″ Work Emotion XD9 wrapped in Falken Azenis. Tucked underneath all that are a set of Spoon callipers and Powerslot Rotors front and rear.

In the rear, air passing under the car is diffused via a J’s Racing rear diffuser as well as a streamlined with a Type-R spoiler.

With the exterior looking like the real deal its only fair to pack the appropriate punch, in the power department we can find a stage 2 CT-Engineering supercharger, Rick Spec’d 3.5″ Intake, T1R Crank Pulley, T1R Race Header, T1R 70R Dolphin Exhaust. The car is yet to be dyno’ed but you can expect this Honda to be over 250+ HP.

The AJRC GT mirrors replace those bulky stock ones and help complete the look of this subtly aggressive CTR, EP3 side makers and OEM window visors can be found here too.

Having tracked the car at Stratotech before the supercharger was installed, he was unhappy with the performance of his car. So Kevin now has plans to increase the output of the motor to stay competitive; let’s just say that his motivation is definitely back on track!

Driven 2012

iM: The Re-Up 2012 (Driven)

Without a doubt one of the biggest events for illmotion this year was Driven 2012. With Driven 2012 coming back to Calgary for the first time since 2010 we wanted to show the city what we’ve been up to the past 2 years since Driven’s absence. A big thank you once again to our friends Naomi Sayo and Steph Ly for coming out and kicking it with us, and thank you to all the homies who came out and repped with us! Not only was this a great day for the car community to chill under one roof, but sales from illmotion merchandise as well as sales from posters sold by Naomi & Steph were donated to the Alberta Children’s Hospital! And this was possible all because of your guys’ support! Thank you guys again!

Let’s take a look back at the iM Film & Event Coverage we covered from this day!

Well the day we had all been waiting for is done and gone with a blink of an eye. The show was a huge success and there were a ton of nice cars that have gone through so many changes over the last year and some that are relatively familiar that had gone through a refreshing switch up as well. We were proud to be a part of it and we were happy to see everyone that got the chance to stop by the booth!

So, to kick off part 1 – we’ll start off with our booth. First off, we want to give a huge thanks to everybody that joined us this year and we wouldn’t have had the booth we did without you guys, and of course, we wouldn’t have been able to take home the best team award either! Congratulations to everybody that took home awards as well – each one was well deserved.

Warning – lots of pictures for you guys to see.

Round 2. The same booth. The same cars. Except with two girls!

We just wanted to thank Naomi and Steph for joining us in our booth all day last Saturday! You guys were awesome.
Anyways – don’t think anyone will read this anyway, so onto the pics!

And we’ll give you guys a break..

I wish we got the name of this guy, and if you’re reading this – let us know! He came and showed us his slammed skateboard that he wanted to put our new decal on. Thought this was dope as hell! Thanks man!

Our table – thank you to everyone that came by and supported us!

Our table!

Peeps coming to stop by to say hi to the girls and check out some illmotion shizz.

Part III our Driven coverage with the rest of the show. We know a lot of you guys have been waiting to see the rest of the pics, so instead of splitting them up further – here’s another big one coming at ya!

Definitely one of the best cars of the show. So clean and perfect.

The huge crowd to see Dannie Riel!

With so many nice cars this year at driven it’s tough to get coverage of everything, but here is one last post to wrap up our coverage. We hope everyone had fun at the show this year, it was a huge success and we can’t wait for Driven 2013.

For the complete collection of Driven pics click HERE

And that concludes our Re-Up 2012 series! We hope you enjoyed a look back at the year that was 2012! With last year now behind us, we can’t wait to see the new features, highlights and events that are to come in 2013! We wish you all the best this year! Let’s get it!

iM: The Re-Up 2012 (2nd Annual Sunday School Show…

2012 Also marked the year for our second annual Sunday School Show & Shine. A huge thanks to everyone who came out on this super hot day! We can’t wait to see you guys again for the illmotion Sunday School Show & Shine in 2013! Let’s relive Sunday School 2012 with the video done by illmotion’s own Corey O’Hara and look at some pics snapped by Jason Hoang!

Once again, that time of year has come and gone. Our second annual Sunday School Show & Shine turned out great and we couldn’t have done it without every single person showing up to come hang out and show some support. It’s great to see more and more people coming out to participate and even spectate all the cars that come out. Our show is more about coming out and having a good time – we don’t care what you drive or what you’ve done to your car, it’s the fact that people come together to share the same common interest as everybody else.

A huge and special thanks to beyond.ca for collaborating with us this year and helping us make this happen – we couldn’t have done it without you guys!

Another big thanks to our DJ “NewGoldWatch!” – JT Rebalbos for providing the music all day in the blistering heat! Always a pleasure to have you out. And thanks to the FloorWookies/On2Logic Crew for giving us some entertainment with your break dancing throughout the day. Props to you guys for doing what you do!

Finally – thank you to everyone that registered and came out to help support us and the automotive scene we all love so much. We had a great turnout this year and we hope that you guys will join us again next year to make it even better!

Onto the pics! We will post as many as we can… but the rest of the set can be found on our flickR page

iM Feature

iM: The Re-Up 2012 (Part 8)

Going into Part 8 of the Re-Up 2012 and we have reached the last (but certainly not least) set of the features and highlights that have graced illmotion.com over the course of 2012. Thank you guys so much for making 2012 another awesome year!!! It’s only up from here as 2013 is now upon us and we can’t wait to keep move forward with more features and highlights to showcase to you all!

Let’s take a look at Part 8!

Taking an uncommon platform and modifying it to make it even more unique is something we’ve always looked for when it comes to featuring/highlighting cars here on illmotion, and Annie’s Subaru Legacy GT sitting on 19″ OZ Wheels definitely fit the bill. Getting groceries and rolling to the next Ringette game has never looked so good.

Pushing it to the absolute limits and looking good while doing it is Hot Boyz ambassador, Eric Zapata and his 1989 Nissan 240SX. Not a single part on Eric’s 1JZ-powered 240SX is unused and he’s got the battle damage to prove it. Eric’s 240 will make you think twice before you say you’ve really driven your car.

null
iM Feature: Eric Zapata’s 1989 Nissan 240SX

Doing what all the cool kids are doing but raising the bar, is Adam Fulton with his fitted Honda Civic EK Hatch sitting low on a rare set of CCW Race Version Classics. Although still in a work in progress, we can’t help but admire the work Adam has already put into his EK.

null
iM Feature: Adam Fulton’s Honda Civic EK Hatch

Mixing a little VIP and a little performance is Chuck and his Lexus IS350. Sporting nothing but some of the biggest names in aftermarket performance and VIP tuning, Chuck definitely knew what he wanted to do and brought his ideas to life. And it’s all evident on his supercharged IS350.

null
iM Feature: Chuck’s Supercharged Lexus IS350

Wrapping up the 2012 year was Mike Salek and his 1975 Honda CB750. Bringing that old school flavor with his “Cafe Racer”, Mike’s CB750 was definitely something we had to showcase as this is something you don’t see everyday. But if you’re lucky enough to see it in person, you might want to invest in a neck brace.

Stay tuned as we wrap up 2012 with two special Re-Up features on Driven 2012 and our 2nd Annual Sunday School Show & Shine!

iM: The Re-Up 2012 (Part 7)

Happy New Year!!!

We hope you are all enjoying time spent with family and friends on the first day of 2013!

Let’s get things started with Part 7 of the Re-Up 2012 featuring more features and highlights that have graced illmotion.com over the course of the year that was 2012.

In collaboration with our homies over at Stretch & Poke!, we were more than happy to showcase one of the most well executed Honda Fit builds in Canada, which is owned by none other than our Eastern Canadian photographer, Galen Wan!

iM x S&P! Feature: Gawa’s Honda Fit

Another feature from our BC photographer Taylor Smith, hooking us up with Alex’s “Mean Green Machine”, a MKII rocking a super rare VR5 transplant.

A wannabe VIP style car, yet wannabe sports sedan? We’re not quite sure where JC was going with the last set up for his 2009 Toyota Corolla XRS, but the Luxury Sports route that he went in definitely looked good.

null
iM Feature: JC Tenchavez’s 2009 Toyota Corolla XRS

If there was one car that Honda heads went head over heels for this year, it had to be this 1998 Acura Integra Type-R owned by none other than Terry Woo. Re-live the feature and find out exactly why Terry’s Type-R goes under the monicker of “Dailo R”.

null

Trying to keep up with the Euro tuners in the city, we were excited when we got word that we were allowed to shoot Daniel Kowall’s BMW M3 GTR. Built purposely for the track, this is one M3 that takes aggressive function to a whole new level.

iM: The Re-Up 2012 (Part 6)

Gonna set this New Year’s Eve off with Part 6 of the Re-Up 2012!!! We hope you guys enjoy whatever festivities you have planned tonight but don’t forget to be safe! Happy New Year’s Eve y’all! Let’s have a look at part 6!

Without a doubt one of the sickest E36 M3s we’ve featured and without one of the dopest E36 M3 rear fitments that you’ll ever come across. How fitting considering this E36 is owned by none other than the boys of Urban Expressions Wheel & Tire (South Calgary). Check it out.

null
iM Highlight: Urban X South’s BMW E36 M3

Doing it and doing it well under his own discretion, and not paying attention to those who had their doubts, Michael Alfarela brings the California flavor to Alberta with his 2010 Mazda3. Rocking stanced out custom Tiffany powdercoated MB Battles, seeing Michael’s Mazda3 rolling in action is something you’ll definitely to catch in person. Oh yeah, it’s static too.

null
iM Feature: Michael Alfarela’s 2010 Mazda3

Considering the Volkswagen R32 already comes with an impressive package straight out of the box, what more could one do to make VW’s hot hatch even more hot? In TJ’s case, build upon it’s performance. Take another look at TJ’s Volkswagen R32 and you might just get an idea of what 387hp looks like.

null
iM Highlight: TJ’s Volkswagen R32

Another feature from our Canadian west coast photographer, Taylor Smith, we’d like to re-introduce Gabe and his EF Hatch. Coming harder this year with more performance from under the hood, Gabe’s boosted EF hatch is something we didn’t mind having another look at!

null
iM Feature: Gabe’s EF Hatch

Keeping things on a subtle level is Tate Subia and his 2011 Mitsubishi Ralliart Lancer. While his car is still a work in progress, we can’t deny that Tate’s Ralliart is on the right track, all the whilst maintaining a simply clean state.

null

iM: The Re-Up 2012 (Part 5)

Now heading into the 5th installment of our Re-Up 2012 series, we can’t stress enough what a great year 2012 has been, and we just can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store! Let’s keep things moving!!!

Something we usually don’t highlight here on illmotion are Sport Utility vehicles and as much as we’d like to, it’s rare that we can stumble across ones that can make us look twice. There are definitely some SUVs however, that stand out and we just have to share with you all, and this one is a Mercedes G500 Wagon owned by Almond!

null
iM Highlight: Almond’s Mercedes-Benz G500

Without a doubt, one of the biggest features we’ve done this year belongs to Philip Tan and his Toyota Corolla AE86 Coupe. The amount of time, effort, patience and passion put into this AE86 is a prime example of what a project car/build can shape up to be if you’re as dedicated as Phil is.

null
iM Feature: Philip Tan’s Toyota Corolla AE86 Coupe

With more love for the Level One family out of Toronto, here’s the homie Dan with his Honda S2000. We had the pleasure of heading out to Toronto this year and meeting with our Level One homies and Dan’s S2000 was hands down one of the lowest S2000s we’ve ever seen. Bags? What bags? Static was the only way this S2000 rolled.

null
iM Feature: Dan’s Honda S2000

With everything and anything that’s MR2 under his belt, Ryan Dandurand surprised us with a new platform this year, a BMW 1M Coupe. With the 1M Coupe being a fairly new release from BMW, it’s amazing how much Ryan has accomplished with his new little project in very little time.

null
iM Highlight: Ryan Dandurand’s 2011 BMW 1M

As mentioned from Justin & B’s write up from their highlight, this excerpt PERFECTLY describes their TSXs. ‘With the TSX being your typical mid size sedan that is often overlooked, and somewhat rare to see in the automotive scene, Justin and B have both been able to turn an everyday car into quite the head turner. Take a look for yourself and you’ll see what these twins are all about…’ That’s what’s up.

iM: The Re-Up 2012 (Part 4)

Continuing with the Re-Up 2012 we’re now halfway there as we hit you up with Part 4, showcasing the features and highlights that have graced illmotion.com over the past year. 2012 was definitely another good year for features and highlights as we’ve tried to cover our bases on builds found locally, on the west coast and on the east coast of Canada. 2013 is sure to bring more heat and we can’t wait to get there! But for now let’s continue to take a look back at the year that was 2012!

Another feature from our “Out East” photographer Gawa, is this stunning Lexus GS350 wrapped in matte vinyl, riding low on ADV.1 ADV08TS wheels. With Lexus tuning becoming more and more popular up north, looks like Steve is ahead of the pack.

null
iM Highlight: Steve’s Lexus GS350

Sporting JDM CTR goodies and quite the collection of wheels for his daily commuter car, Vince’s Acura CSX will have you snapping your neck and looking twice no matter what set of wheels he’s rocking. Whether he’s rocking his Mugen MF10s, SSR Type-Fs or JDM CTR wheels, Vince is always dressed for the occassion.

They say when life hits you, you have to make some sacrifices and fine tune some aspects of your lifestyle to accomodate for the “real world”. This certainly didn’t stop Danny from building what we think is that perfect balance between “fun” and “family”. Have a look at his 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI hatchback and you’ll see exactly what we’re talking about.

null
iM Feature: Danny Yee’s 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI

2012 marked the return of the “Internet Sensation”. Coming correct this year with fresh, new Moonrock paint, and candy yellow Volk TE37s, Jackie Law and his infamous S2000 made a huge return to the scene, complete with the ceiling missing (That’s a 2 Chainz reference if you guys didn’t catch that). Team Awesome is in the building. What’s up!

null
iM Feature: Jackie Law’s 2003 Honda S2000

Functionality. The term coined for Tim’s 1992 Honda Civic EG Hatch. And rightfully so as this isn’t your typical, basic 1992 EG Hatch. Sporting nothing but the most functional of parts from it’s JDM counterpart, as well as parts from Spoon and Mugen to name a few, Tim’s Supercharged K20 EG exemplifies what it means do things on a subtle level, all the while catching the attention of any diehard Honda fan boy.

iM: The Re-Up 2012 (Part 3)

Moving along smoothly we’re bringing you Part 3 of our Re-Up 2012 series! Looking back at these features definitely brings back some memories and certainly brings that desire for summer to come back ASAP! Let’s have a look at more features and highlights from 2012! Happy Friday everybody!

Kicking things off with one of our closest homies since the beginning, Jason Hoang and his 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Without a doubt one of the quickest builds we’ve seen this year and all done with great taste in mind. Combining parts from Voltex, Volk Racing and Varis, Jason definitely wasted no time at all on the one he called “Snow White”.

null
iM Feature: Jason Hoang’s 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI

The Calagui Brothers feature was definitely one of our favorite features this year as Allan & Ray came correct with their E90/E92 platforms. Function and Form are definitely evident on both cars further proving the fact that it all runs in the family.

null

Previously featuring his VR Jetta Coupe, illmotion’s west coast photographer Taylor Smith stepped into the Honda scene with his 1994 Acura Integra GSR. Super clean.

iM Highlight: Taylor’s 1994 Acura Integra GSR

Reppin’ our Level One family once again out of Toronto are Ger & Yau with their Acura CSX. With JDM goodness found on this whip for days on end, this is one daily driver we all wouldn’t mind rocking on the regular.

null
iM Feature: Ger & Yau’s Acura CSX

Keeping things on that Level One tip, our illmotion photographer from the East, Gawa hits us once again with Yau’s R32 GT-R. Fully wrapped in CF Vinyl and sitting on green Volk TEs, Yau definitely knew how set himself apart from your typical RHD R32 GT-R in Canada.
